Started The House at Midnight by Lucie Whitehouse.

Giordano writes with such elegance about the landscape of loneliness. Mattia and Alice – like the rare “twin primes” in mathematics, who are near but always separated by one even number – are destined to cling together though never quite touch. Luke Daniels gives a nuanced performance on the audio version.

These books are also so long that I'm getting woefully behind on my goal!

Another great Steinbeck novel! I particularly liked the occasional chapters that were more like editorials about the conditions of the people, the land, and the economic times. The audio was well done, and Baker seemed to be channeling Henry Fonda as Tom Joad.

I almost gave up on this because it is slow to get started. Greene, a journalist, spends seemingly countless pages giving the reader a history lesson on Ethiopia and the development of HIV/AIDS. What was really compelling about the book was the story of Haregewoin Teferra, a middle-class Ethiopian woman consumed by grief, who – one child at a time – begins to care for and find permanent homes for some of the millions of AIDS orphans in Ethiopia. At times frustrating, at times heartwarming.

Now I'm reading Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare which I'm sure like all her other books I've read I will enjoy.

Decent Southern women’s fiction, with an intelligent, independent heroine who must learn to let go of the guilt she carries over her brother’s disappearance. It’s a fast, summer vacation read.

This is an epic historical family drama taking the reader from 1904 in the Italian Alps to just after WW 2 in America. Based on her own grandparents’ story, this is clearly a labor of love for Trigiani. The audio is narrated by Annabella Sciorra and Adriana Trigiani. I was completely caught up in the story, and especially liked Enza – a strong woman with intelligence and grace.

This is a very good book about friendship, love and cuisine. Mones deftly combines the story of widowed Maggie McElroy and rising culinary star Sam Liang. The characters are revealed as the reader sees how they each deal with various disappointments and unexpected joys. The descriptions of the menus and dishes are a sensory feast of tastes, sounds, smells, textures, and visual images. Take your time reading it – savor every page.

Goth Girl Rising (realistic YA)
Fateful (historical paranormal YA)
Don of the Dead (paranormal mystery)
Rotters (realistic horror YA)

This is another wonderful mystery from the Queen of detective fiction – Dame Agatha Christie. Hercule Poirot is at the top of his game following the clues to identify a serial killer who is taunting him with letters. The novel is narrated by his friend and colleague Captain Hastings. Hugh Fraser does a marvelous job performing the audio book.
