Lily (joy1) | 749 comments This is a thread on which to post your post-meeting thoughts about The Light Between Oceans that you would like to share with the group, including any comments that would summarize what you heard us articulate when together. Also, to post information about upcoming book read choices and suggestions.

Lily (joy1) | 749 comments Very enjoyable meeting at CB's today (1/19). I'm going to skip any summarizing comments on The Light Between Oceans right now to say that we have decided to experiment with this online book club on goodreads. It is definitely NOT to be a replacement for the monthly meetings we cherish when we can get to them. But it may be one of the techniques we can use to stay in touch with JW and other ex-members. I will send out an email with directions on how to become a goodreads and a group member, along with some opening comments and suggestions.

Lily (joy1) | 749 comments Two books were chosen today, our February and March choices:

Istanbul Passage by Joseph Kanon Istanbul Passage by Joseph Kanon

This was a suggestion JW had made a few months ago, I had looked at a copy in Bear Pond Books in Stowe and been enticed (but didn't buy), DG had just returned from Istanbul, and she read the synopsis which sounded fast-paced -- so that one sort of fell into place.

Istanbul Passage will be our selection for March.

AV put Stephen King's 11/22/63 by Stephen King 11/22/63 on the table and we bit after CC read us its synopsis.

11/22/63 will be our selection for February.

CB had tried Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman and didn't share my enthusiasm, so that one goes on our NGR (Not Group Read) pile.

DM is currently enjoying a Jane Fonda autobiography ( My Life So Far ?) and suggested that we consider biography in the future. It was pointed out that Sonia Sotomayor's autobiography My Beloved World has just been released and a review is in this weekend's newspaper (NYTBR?).

A couple of other ideas floated around, but I either didn't catch or haven't mentioned here. Someone else add if there was something worth capturing, especially for future consideration?

Lily (joy1) | 749 comments Note the update on reading selections for February and March. I initially reversed them and have updated tonight after receiving CB's email with the correct order. My apologies to anyone who may have checked here last night or Sunday.

Lily (joy1) | 749 comments Also from CB's email:

Future possibilities:

My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor
The Good House by Ann Leary

On Your Own.........Highly recommended: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
