message 2: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Yeah, I haven't read any one star worthy books yet!

message 3: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Good for you :D I have. I really didn't want to, but I had no choice since I really didn't like it one bit.
Love Unscripted (Love, #1) by Tina Reber
Sorry if you are a fan :D

message 4: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Blind Spot by Laura Ellen

this is my only book read in 2013 that I gave one star to

but it looks like I handed out the honor of 1 star to about 30 books last year :) I guess I'm not as stingy with my single star ratings as I thought! LOL

message 5: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Lol... You are so generous Trisha. I will check how many books I rated one star from last year :)

message 6: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments 12 books :) I hope the number is lower this year.

message 7: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Not yet and I only gave one book 1star last year.

Only one? :) You are very generous.

If I go back, I usually decrease the rating

Dyg Mas Tijah (dygmastijah) | 3 comments hahahaha : D
you shoud understand the story of the book, then you rate :)

message 11: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Gis, either I'm very generous or I choose my books wisely. Lol

message 12: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I want to be wiser in book choosing department also

message 13: by Trisha, lives on coffee (last edited Jan 23, 2013 07:52PM) (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments lol I must be too greedy. I just pick up everything and read it... I'm just a sucker for pretty covers :)

message 14: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Trisha, cuz you are a freaking SPEED DEMON! You can "afford" some wasted reading time. Lol

message 15: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Welcome to the club :) I love pretty covers too! I sometimes (read: most of the time) don't even read the synopsis.

message 16: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Noorderlicht by Suzanne Vermeer was my first 1 star this year, and currently also the only one. :)
The blurb sounded awesome, and I was happily waiting for the action/mystery to kick in... which happened near the end, then nothing, and then a little bit again and then nothing until the last page. :\

message 17: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments bummer! I hate slow books. I have given 1 star to only one book also :)

message 18: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Vicki wrote: "Trisha, cuz you are a freaking SPEED DEMON! You can "afford" some wasted reading time. Lol"

I agree :) I don't know how she can read that many. Almost 50 books in just 20 days.

message 19: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Gisbelle wrote: "bummer! I hate slow books. I have given 1 star to only one book also :)"

Same here, also depends on the type of book, but with a mystery/thriller book it should have some speed. And I especially hate it when a blurb promises a good story with lots of mystery and death, and in the end nothing. :\

message 20: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I have been fooled many times :| Sometimes because of the rating and reviews.

Sounds like they were stringing you along with the action.. That sucks. I hate slows books like that! Ugh. I hope your book year picks it and that you have no more 1 stars!

Mehsi Janna wrote: "Sounds like they were stringing you along with the action.. That sucks. I hate slows books like that! Ugh. I hope your book year picks it and that you have no more 1 stars!"

Yeah, it really sucks they do that. :( I thought it would be as good as his (yes the author was man) other book I read a while ago. Thanks, and thus far I haven't had another 1 rating. Though some of the 2 star rated books are actually more bordering on 1 than 2, but sadly there isn't a 1.5 star thing.

message 23: by Andreea Oxi (new)

Andreea Oxi (oxolicious) I've just rated this one: The Perfect Age by Heather Skyler one star, because I had no choice, I really hated it. :( Main subject: betrayal. MULTIPLE betrayal, more like a "family business" if I might call it this way.

message 24: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments :( Sounds like the book I would hate as well.

message 25: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 553 comments Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves

This book was horrible. The synopsis made it sound like I would be reading about a serial killer's daughters who have the urge and like to kill like he did. So I thought I was going to be reading some gruesome fun. I was totally not prepared for the, lack of a better word, stupidness of this book and all the paranormal mumbo jumbo that came with it. I'm usually one for a good paranormal story but this one was just dumb

message 26: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Bummer! I don't think I would enjoy this book either.

message 27: by Birdie (last edited Feb 09, 2013 03:43AM) (new)

Birdie (purple_feather22) | 294 comments Sadly yes, I gave my first single star of the year to the last book I read called Water by Terra Harmony. I was so disappointed with this book. The premise was alright but the main character is a buffoon and I hate the decisions she makes. All this really bad crap happens to her and she acts all ho-hum about it. I would have been outraged if all that happened to me, instead I'm outraged at her.

I guess I was generous last year also, with only 1 star last year. I gave out quite a few 2's but only 1 was bad enough for a single star.

message 28: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments That book you talked about sounds so annoying!

message 29: by Erin (new)

Erin Latimer | 108 comments Ugh, I hate reading about main characters that are limp dishrags and don't do anything to change things, or don't get good and mad at something that makes me fume!

I don't usually give one star reviews unless the book really peeved me off. Normally if I really didn't like it I just don't review it. But, I had to read "The Magic" for my book club. I one-starred that crap. I felt like it was just ripping people off with a punch of BS "feel good" hooey. Like the author thought, "wow, I made so much money with The Secret. How can I make more? I know, I'll replace the word "positive thinking" with "thankfulness" and no one will realize it's the same book!"

message 30: by Sofiraindrop (new)

Sofiraindrop | 425 comments I liked the rest of the books but this was really boring Dark Flame (The Immortals, #4) by Alyson Noel

OMG... That's just so wrong! You cannot write the same thing again just by changing characters and in this case, words. I hate that too Erin.

I remember last year, I read a few books similar to your case. The author simply released more books in the series, but the plots were just the same. Bad boys loved nice girls. Crazy ex-girlfriends appeared. Misunderstanding... blah blah blah... I was so disappointed since I loved the first book in the series so much.

Sorry to hear that. You must have been so disappointed.

message 33: by Tesni (new)

Tesni (tezbuzz) | 46 comments I don't have any one stars from last year, and only 3 ever! I usually reserve it for books I didn't finish or I hated. This doesn't occur often as I only pick books to read that I think I'll enjoy. I have far more 2 stars which to me is - I enjoyed it but it's not great literature, just a bit of fun.

message 34: by harshini (new)

harshini (watchmeread) | 644 comments Nope no 1 star books yet this year, I gave a book no stars last year and one with 1 star :\ These were Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout (not my kind of book) and Firelight (Firelight, #1) by Sophie Jordan

message 35: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Oh so sorry you didn't like Lux series. I like that series a lot.

message 36: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) none for now. :)

I bet this happens when the author gets pressured for a second book but the story was basically already finished. It's never good when the book feels forced.

message 41: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I hate that too. Let the book end already.

message 42: by harshini (new)

harshini (watchmeread) | 644 comments Gisbelle wrote: "Oh so sorry you didn't like Lux series. I like that series a lot."

Yeah I really don't like hot guys in books much so since most people liked Daemon I didn't so the book was out for me

message 43: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Maybe because you are still very young :D

message 44: by harshini (new)

I didn't like Wrinkle in Time that much either. I didn't rate it one star though - I think I gave it 3.

I rarely read books that I find so bad I rate it 1 star. I think Twilight was one of the only ones...

message 47: by Erin (new)

Erin Latimer | 108 comments A Wrinkle in Time is a classic. And like many classics, you read it to say you read it. lol.

I tried to read David Copperfeild...yeah, still haven't made it through.
