I do this ALL the time! I've lost track of how many days I've gone to work on one or two hours of sleep. I know better than to start a new book at night time as new books never send me to sleep. I have to reread old faves to get to sleep but sometimes the obsession hits and I can't help myself.

Definitely 2 and 3. Add reading even with dim lights and reading while eating, sweeping and cleaning and other multitasking chores. Haha. Reading while in the middle of conversation. Now, how the heck do I do that. No wonder my friends are pissed. I can't do impulsive book buying. Student allowance...

Diann Shaddox (diannshaddox) | 8 comments My worst readig habit is reading way to fast, thinking if I took my time I would enjoy the book better, but each time I zoom through a book.

message 207: by sav (new)

sav (savilizabeths) My worst reading habit is probably counting the pages. I skim sometimes which is a habit I am trying to get out of. But I race myself to the end of the book. I keep looking down to see which page number I'm on. It's really awful. I'm doing that with the book I'm reading right now. It's bad.

Melissa Eisenmeier (carpelibrumbooks) This isn't a bad reading habit so much as it is a bad bookstore owner habit, but I've read the stock, instead of leaving the books on the shelves for the customers to peruse. Part of it is I want to read some of the books before I sell them. For instance, I want to read George R. R. Martin's book on my shelf before I sell it- I had had two books in the series on my shelves, but the neighbor's daughter bought it. Ditto for the Melissa Etheridge memoir; I want to read it before I sell it.

Me too, I get lost in the story sometimes, stayed up, then spend the next three days trying to recover.

Ero | 4 comments If I'm into a really, really great book, I'll read it anywhere- including when I'm eating- and sometimes if I'm eating something particularly messy (Like spaghetti) I get smudges on the book :-/ hate that. Also, putting the book face down to hold a spot, and then being totally annoyed later when the spine is broken/tattered/cracked.

lol I thought I was the only one. heck if i'm really into it I take bubble baths and bring the book with me. my mom used to worry when I was a teenager and made me go outside WITHOUT a book, I thought she was cruel

message 225: by Angela (new)

Angela Aquino | 3 comments I have a LOT! Most of them are the same with the ones already mentioned.

- I also count the number of pages until the next chapter to estimate the time until I'm done.
- I bring the book to the table while eating and my parents would always scold me for that!
- When it's already lights-off, I read the book using only my phone light (even though they say that it's bad for the eyes).
- I bring my book wherever I go, even in family occasions!
- (this one, I got scolded real bad) I read a book during our family get together one Christmas.
- I tend to hoard on books, especially when they're on sale or it's bargain.
- While I'm reading one book and just bought a new one, I stop reading the previous and start with the new book. Then later I'd buy another book and do the same thing!

Bian is always tired | 53 comments I also always take a book wherever I go, I think I spent one christmas a few years ago reading during church... I think I have another bad habit although it may not be a reading habit it certainly is a book related habit. I love collecting book related items like reading lights (which always end up breaking), booksmarks (especially if they have owls on them) and bookstands (I have a oak wood one and have my eye on a small black plastic one).

message 227: by Jack (new)

Jack (jack_) Wow, ok, I have a lot. One of the worst, I guess, is that I never stop reading a book in the middle of the chapter. Even when I'm in a hurry. It's a bad habit I guess because I end up rushing through the rest of the chapter and it doesn't really process right in my brain. That is my bad habit. :-P

message 228: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia Abboud (anastasiaabboud) All of my worst have been mentioned: reading too fast and trying to read too many books simultaneously. So little time, so much to read. . . .

message 229: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenniferdelorme) Looking for when my favorite Character's chapter is next. then seeing bits and pieces of words that get me all pumped to get to that chapter

message 230: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 3 comments This is going to be long...

Eating while reading
Talking about books to people who din't care
Wear my squeaky crocks to the library (does that count?)
Going fan girl on cute characters
Skipping homework to read (whoops!)
Start a trilogy that's really good and have to wait a WHOLE year for the next book
Reading over details
LAST going broke from buying books

message 232: by Jocelyne (new)

Jocelyne Lebon Reading several books simultaneously, buying books compulsively, dropping my books in the bathtub. It happened twice with library books and cost me $20 dollars each time. Next time I'll buy the books I plan to drop in my bathtub!

Sara My worst habit has to be that I read the last paragraph of the book because the curiosity kills me but it ruins the book

message 238: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Mccallum | 4 comments I count the pages in a book to see how many i have left when im reading it. I do the same with individual chapters. I also have a lack of bookmarks so i fold the corners of pages down, unless it borrowed from someone.

I do the same thing but in a different way, I have to set the book down after someone dies most notably in Sirius Black's case and just cry and scream then I re read to make sure it actually happened.

message 243: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishsrma) My worst habit is reading a book with candlelight because I find it more relaxing.

Well, that is until I almost set my study desk on fire. :))

message 245: by Susana (last edited Mar 09, 2013 06:21AM) (new)

Susana | 52 comments (Most of you have already mentioned most of my bad habits)
1. Looking at how many chapters a book has before I read it
2. Counting how many pages are left until I have to finish the chapter
3. Reading the summary and seeing if it sounds interesting before I read the book
4. Judging a book by its cover
5. Reading while I'm inside the car (and this is mostly at nighttime (6.)
7. Reading a book during class (this has gotten me in trouble a few times but not that bad)
8. Reading a book during a time when I'm really busy so I start the book, but because I've let so much time pass in between I have to reread everything
9. Spending more time on goodreads than reading a book
10. Taking my book (mostly) everywhere!!
11. If I start reading a series, I HAVE to finish it all before I start reading another book
12. I start reading a series without checking if all the books are out so sometimes I have to wait till the NEXT YEAR for the other book (by that time I have to re-read the other books to remember what happened)

message 246: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana (tatianadiaz) | 12 comments I have two I won't put a book down for food or a bathroom break. I will hold it till I am about to explode with need. lol. I also tend to skip a paragraph or 2 to get to the dialogue when I get impatient about what is gonna happen next.

message 248: by Alma (new)

Alma | 24 comments My worst habit would be reading a lot of books at the same time I'm currently reading Kill me, Other dimensions, The road, Fifty shades of grey, Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Crescendo ..... All of these I've started last year and can't seam to finish them. Of course the ones that I really like I finish in a day or two, so I guess I'm kind of a quitter Lol Also, I never rent books - I have to buy them so I can have them (kind of a hoarder thing with me) Possessive much? LOL

message 249: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenluvssu) Same here! At the end of it all I don't end up finishing any of them. :(

message 250: by Cathal (new)

Cathal Reynolds (khakipantsofsex) I've kind of gotten out of it know, but I used to absolutely need to know exactly how many pages of a book were left. I was so focused on keeping track I doubt I got the full effect of many books. Also I tend to read half a dozen books at once...
