Luz Patrizsa Hyacinth Villamor (aryadaenerys) I don't know if this is a bad habit or not but I usually stall when I get to the last chapter of a book because, well, I don't want it to end. :)

-RininTa- (rinz) | 39 comments My bad habits:
- I always fall asleep after reading 2 chapters of the book.
- I'm distracted easily so I have to read in quiet place.
- Sometimes I like to skim some paragraph though I still understand the story.

Kace | The Booknerd (booksforkace) | 7 comments Bad reading habits? I have tons! Aside from the fact that I don't do breaks until I'm finish with the book because I go restless. I also tend to do Sub-Vocalization. :)

I totally agree with you.. I do it too.. In fact some times even in the middle of the book.. :)

message 355: by Angel (new)

Angel Hmm bad reading habits ... Well, I guess if I has a bad habit it would be that I'm already thinking about the next book I want to read before I finish the one I'm reading. Oh and I turn down the corners of my pages if I don't have a bookmark.

Diana Gotsch | 55 comments I must confess to one of the worst habits. I once in a while take a little peak ahead.

Pratiksha | 9 comments I read a lot of smut when I don't even like reading it that much. Its just that there have been times when I found a good story within such novels. And its like trying to find a pearl in a dirty dirty ocean. I skip a lot of pages in such novels and get bored easily, but hey, I am a right little optimist!

Also, I hate love triangles. A reason I didn't read Hunger Games (gasp!). I am waiting for someone to tell me it isn't that bad.

message 359: by Aiysic (new)

Aiysic | 22 comments I sometimes read the last few pages if I find the book boring. Just to see if it's worth reading. And...I skip some pages to find the sex scenes hahaha

Marie (clarisse723) | 31 comments Reading in the bathroom. Oh God. Hahahaha!

message 361: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) I guess my worst habit is buying more books than I read.

message 362: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Ward | 2 comments I've got so many bad habits when it comes to reading. Firstly, I'm not a big fan of second hand books from libraries etc. I just can't deal with broken spines and dog eared pages.
I read every day on my journey to and from college, however as my hours are long I sometimes find myself falling asleep on the bus which means I skip a few pages by accident.
Lately I've been starting books but not finishing them, it's not because I'm not interested in them. I am and the plot. It's just the style of writing is very complex and it requires 100% of my attention when reading, which due to my tiredness on bus journeys I cannot do. I always feel very bad for leaving a book to go on and read another one, it makes me feel like I am cheating on the book. Does anybody else feel this way?
I also have a very bad habit of reading one book and going out and buying five more.

message 363: by Beatrix (new)

Beatrix (beatrixminkov) @Natasha; YES! I used to do exactly the same, ending up sobbing because I felt really bad for not being able to finish the book. ATM it is one of de goals I set for myself. If I start a book and I Can't get into the story, I NEED to force myself to finish it. ;)
My worst reading habit is probably the fact that I want to read from chapter tot chapter, even when I don't have time to finish it. Which often results in missing trains, being to late for college, and not joining a conversation. It also happens to me that I find myself sitting or standing in an unusual place (supermarket, trainstation - somewhere in the middle of the spot - so People Can't get trough, lol, or even sleep/readwalking and almost causing an accident because I just need to finish it.
I guess I have OCD when it comes to reading ;).

message 364: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Mugerwa (corrosivemind) A bad reading habit I have is that I literally judge a book by its cover. If the cover page is lousy, odds are I won't pick it up.

Also, if the first few lines are good, I will most probably continue, if they are not I shelve it.

My last bad habit is I tend to zone out if that particular line was too good. Sometimes I get in character and do a few karate chops to help out the hero/heroine.

WORST HABIT? I CEASE TO EXIST WHEN I READ.

message 365: by Katie (new)

Katie Harder-schauer | 6 comments My worst habit is that I'm a spine breaker, but I just kind of have to in order to read holding the book in one hand. You don't have to worry about finding my broken spined books at a thrift store or yard sale or anything like that though, because I keep all my books (much to my husbands chagrin). I refuse to borrow books from the library because once I read the book I'm going to want to own it anyway, so I might as well skip the middle man (also, when I own the book I can break the spine and not feel guilty.) I'm a bathtub reader, but only with paperbacks because I do not want to risk having my ereader meet a watery death. I frequently take a book with me to the restroom, even if I'm only peeing because I don't want to put it down, and have been known to sit on the toilet for upwards of 30 minutes because I don't want to put the book down long enough to wash my hands. I love buying books second hand at the thrift store and have made some really awesome discoveries there. I also always have more than one book started at a time (right now I have 9 listed as currently reading here on Goodreads, but two of those are chapter books I'm reading to my 5 and 2 year old that I wouldn't count except I only read them as fast as their attention span will allow, which means much slower than I read every other book.) I don't really consider that one a bad habit though, and just view it as a way to keep my memory sharp as I'm constantly keeping track of multiple story lines.

Tess (books.with.tess) (bookswithtess) My worst book (not reading, no) habit is bringing too many books home. And by too many I mean TOO MANY!! I get sooo many free copies at work it's...it's a sin, really.

message 367: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 12 comments I have a bunch of books i started but did not finish, my goal this year is to finish them. I buy books, a lot of books, when i have a ton already to read. I also read a few books at a time, so right now i am reading 6. I could probably get more read if i focused on one at a time.

message 368: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (age1213) | 20 comments I skip ahead, I break spines, I read in the bathroom, and I buy more books than I could ever hope to read in a lifetime. I also stop reading a book if I'm not reeled in by the first pages, even if someone tells me it doesn't get good until later. There are way to many books out there to waste time on a bad one!

message 369: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 395 comments I like to buy the books that I find the most interesting, but then I just read the ones from the library because I have to return them while mine just remain in the bookshelf :S and when I come to library to return those that I have, I am not able of leaving the library without a lot of books again!

I don't think #6 is a bad reading habit. I refuse to get one, either, because, well, books.

message 372: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (diaze) I don't mind sprawling, hefty novels that are 700+ pages. But I also read short stories. Yet when I start a short story, I look to see how long it is. If it is longer than 20 pages, it bugs me. Weird.

message 373: by Linda (new)

Linda Zhang | 1 comments I read a bunch of books all at once and never make it to the end. I am probably in the middle of at least seven right now and it would be a miracle if i could remember any character's name at this point.

Me and my sister JUST discussed this last night! I CANNOT read more than 1 book for that reason. I have tried and I mix up the characters in the books, wondering where a particular character is only to find out it was in my OTHER book!! Just can't do it

I'm like that, too. I typically can't read more than one book at a time, because I mix up the characters and plots.

message 376: by r8chh (new)

r8chh | 36 comments I seem to always have book spurts. I'll breeze through books but then I'll just not read for awhile. but I still keep ordering books on Amazon cause I'll be like "I have nothing to read!" even though I have more than plenty. lol
and I have a habit of reading reviews while I'm in the process of reading the book. then I get all pissed even though it's my fault haha

I do that too! I used to read like the last page first, which was really bad i stopped doing that because hello, spoilers!

message 379: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (diaze) I binge buy books and sometimes binge buy another stack before I finish reading all the books from the previous stack, resulting in meta- stack consisting of previously binge bought books left unread.

message 380: by Hj (new)

Hj | 3 comments I have to have a happy ending to the books I read so I always go to the end of the book after I have read the first few chapters and read the very end.

message 382: by Anna (new)

Anna (AnnaTheHaibane) | 9 comments My worst habit? Reading a normal book when I'm supposed to be reading one for school. I ALWAYS do this, and it ALWAYS ends badly (probably with the worst case scenario being an all-nighter).

Diana Gotsch | 55 comments Silvia wrote: "I like to buy the books that I find the most interesting, but then I just read the ones from the library because I have to return them while mine just remain in the bookshelf :S and when I come to ..."

I do this too. I hate it when people give me gift certificates to book stores because I know what I'll end up not reading what I use it on. I even do it with cookbooks

message 384: by Ash (new)

Ash (morethanfairytales) | 115 comments I count the pages I have left in a chapter when I get impatient, even if it's an ebook. I fold the corners of every page that has a quote I want to save, so I'll remember to go back and write it down later (several of my books have permanent crease markings on the edges of 20+ pages).

Perhaps worst of all, I have an inadvertent habit of glancing to the last paragraph when I'm on the last page of a chapter. Sometimes, I have to cover the final few sentences with my hand so that I don't read spoilers this way.

Ashley wrote, "I count the pages I have left in a chapter when I get impatient, even if it's an ebook."

So do I!!!!!!

message 386: by Sember (new)

Sember The worse habit I have is going to google to make sure my favorite character at the time doesn't get killed off in the book.

message 387: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 12 comments I have a bad habit of buying books as well as downloading free kindle books, and then I pick ten at a time to read. My goal this year is to finish the ones I started, and to stop buying more until I finish my collection that sit on multiple book shelves. The problem is I see a book and feel my life is not complete unless I have it, which causes me to obsess over it and then I buy it. I actualy have one on hold at barns & noble that I have to pick up tomorrow lol. If this is the worst habit I can have I will be happy to own it!

message 388: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Michaels (jemsbooks) Bad reading habit? Reading between 2 and 10 books at once and losing at least one of them at one point or another.

message 389: by nads | abooknomad (new)

nads | abooknomad (abooknomad) Oh man, I have loads of them! Like I take my book or kindle everywhere I go, the toilet, the kitchen EVERY.WHERE and when something happens to the book like a little chunk of food dirts the page I'm ready to murder someone.
Or when I read all night even when I know the next morning I gave to wake up early or

message 390: by nads | abooknomad (new)

nads | abooknomad (abooknomad) Or like you all have mentioned above reading the last line of a page or just turn some pages to see what happens or when I try to make sure the character doesn't die or if that and that character are going to end up together in the end and afterwards cursing myself because... Spoilers. And so on....

message 391: by Matty (new)

Matty Millard | 8 comments I also do that - but I'm quite good at avoiding reading any of it so I don't often ruin the storyline!

Worst habit is probably folding over the corner of pages (tut tut), but I do read too many books at once, so it can often take me ages to finish one!

message 392: by Allison (new)

Allison | 269 comments Neglecting a book I don't like. I really don't like not finishing books, but I will leave one aside while I read others and then end up forgetting all the characters and plot line by the time I get back to said book...

message 393: by r8chh (new)

r8chh | 36 comments @Allison I hate doing that! Cause then I don't feel like rereading it and just ditch it even though I know it might be good, I'm in that problem with Allegiant lol

message 394: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Michaels (jemsbooks) Allison, I also do that. It usually ends up being non-fiction books that get that treatment but I do try to get through them.

message 395: by Allison (new)

message 396: by Avra (new)

Avra Sengupta Better than having a "reader's block", where you don't start anything new, till you finish the one in hand, and you don't feel like reading it, but still go on.. Checking from time to time how much of it is left..

message 397: by Stacy (new)

Stacy okun (stacyo40) | 111 comments I went through a phase of reading every book I had whether or not I liked it. I would skim if I had to, that to me was my bad habit. Now, my TBR list is so long, if I pick up a book and I'm not into it by 50-75 pages, its a goner

message 398: by Eirini (new)

Eirini Robin (robinirin) A bad habit of mine is that every time (EVERY TIME! :O) that I lay my hands on a book I tap my fingers on the pages or the cover because there's always a song stuck in my mind and I get distracted by the rythm (I'm my own disturb! Ahahah)
Another thing -which almost everyone faces- is when in an action scene, or when a great revelation is about to happen ,I can't control my urge to look straight at that part, temporarily skipping the rest of the page and then I'm like "What?! How did that happen?" and go back to read the missing parts xD

message 399: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Michaels (jemsbooks) I've never skipped parts to get to the big happening. I have on occasion, realized that I had read a book before so I skipped to re-read the last chapter ha ha ha!

message 400: by BriAnna (new)

BriAnna (Bookworm36) | 2 comments One of my bad habits is when I'm really into a book, I have to take that book with me WHEREVER I go. I CANNOT PUT IT DOWN, whether I'm eating something like chips n dip, drinking something or even going to the bath room. haha, its a real bad habit because the books always end up looking like I've had it for years when in fact i usually have just bought it.
