Yeah I've always wondered about all the ancient Egyptian symbols myself.

The US Founding Fathers must've been aware of these things, I assume.

I visited this obelisk last year and it stands in a lonely corner of the park. The Egyptian government has insisted on better care of the monument. The nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were consumed with ‘Egypt mania’. Obelisks were built, usually from multiple bricks or stones, for a variety of commemorative and symbolic purposes. The Freemasons, in particular, took ownership of the symbol as a sign of the ancient history of the Masonic craft. When the people of New York received their own authentic Egyptian obelisk – one of Cleopatra’s needles – in 1880, ‘nine thousand Masons proceeded down Fifth Avenue and into the Park’. The construction of the Washington Monument, a brick obelisk, was also highly celebrated by the Freemason community.

The Solomon key mentions Ley lines with respect to the first Jewish Temple. I think that there is some form of universal code embedded in the natural world and that the ancients were probably more aware of it than we are. An obelisk is a symbol of geometric perfection.

So London, NYC and Paris have authentic Egyptian obelisks.

For Freemasons, the joining of the material ‘four’ with the divine ‘three’ gives the sacred seven that permeates much of ancient Western mythology. The obelisk is another way to present a pyramid type structure—here four triangles are placed above a perfect square. An obelisk now becomes a Masonic sign of perfection.
