Try Daniel Woodrell, my closest to Cormac dude. Winter's Bone,Woe to Live On and Give Us a Kiss are my suggestions to read of his.
You might try something by Stewart O'Nan. Wish You Were Here or Emily Alone
Worth trying The Son by Philipp Meyer. Family epic, set in Texas, with definite similarities to McCarthy. It's pretty chunky so hopefully will last more than a day.
For something that will make you feel all different types of emotions, I'd recommend Disgrace.For something that's on a different level and you won't be able to finish quickly, I'd suggest East of Eden.
Similar to Southern Gothic in many regards, I'd recommend just about all of Richard Ford's books.
