Through Time discussion

In 1901 Queen Victoria died and her wild son Bertie became king. When he died a kind of non-interesting fellow became king and then WWI started. In the years between Victoria and the War, the world changed. I think one of the biggest causes for change was the automobile. Another big force was the power of the common person to demand change. All around the world socialist and communist groups were active. Even the Christian church tried to bring change for poor people. They called it the Social Gospel. I am always of two minds--I want the rise of the lower classes but I sure regret the loss of all the beautiful old country houses and gardens and the fairy tale world of those beautiful dinner tables set beautifully and conversation being a highlight of an evening.
