Under the Dome

and I'll just say this ... what a perfect place to keep a horrible secret ... I've decided to move all my horrible secrets there - but on the shelf where you put your tinned goods so the smell doesn't permeate ... wouldn't be any good on the shelf next to your tea bags for instance ...

I read this on King's site from his mod:
"I've read the book but haven't seen The Simpsons movie so don't know if it is actually close to that idea. To the best of my knowledge, he still hasn't seen the movie either. My guess is that Steve has put his own spin on the idea of a town being trapped under a dome."

I wonder what kind of spin King is going to put on his dome.
I feel like this is going to be similar to the Stand so I am excited. And what I mean by that is how a community would get on in a changed world. I mean these people are stuck in a dome and need to get along. Guess I know how I will be spending the month of November.

Yeah, you're right, the whole "dome motif" has been kicking around for quite some time, but I'm fairly certain what King has up his sleeve will be quite original :-)

I have not doubt!

We might be heading into the Golden Years with King. :)

This was just posted by the Moderator on the Stephen King Message Board:
I've been authorized to release the official information from Scribner about the collector's editions, so here you go:
Scribner will publish two Collector’s Editions. The regular Collector’s Edition will have a special jacket with a belly band, a stamped case, four-color printed endpapers, a ribbon marker, and will contain a set of 27 special trading cards featuring drawings of characters from the book (drawn by cartoonist Matthew Diffee). These drawings will also be featured in the book—as a frontispiece image and on the 26 part title pages. The book will be shrink-wrapped and Scribner will print only 25,000 copies of this edition, priced at $75.
Scribner is also offering 1,500 copies of a signed, limited Collector’s Edition. This contains all the special elements listed above, plus the book will be signed by the author. This is priced at $200.

I wish a author who I love would come to a city near me. It always seems they stay on the east coast!

Author King 'mistaken for vandal'
Many of King's novels have been successfully adapted for screen
Author Stephen King was mistaken for a vandal when he started signing books during an unannounced visit to a shop in Australia, according to local media.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation said staff at the Alice Springs book store did not initially realise the writer was autographing his own novels.
Bookshop manager Bev Ellis said: "When you see someone writing in one of your books you get a bit toey [nervous:].
"We immediately ran to the books and lo and behold, there was the signature."
Ms Ellis later approached the author at a nearby supermarket and said he was "very nice, charming".
"Well, if we knew you were coming we would have baked you a cake," she told the writer.
'Embarrassing'
The prolific author, best known for works such as Carrie, The Shining and Misery, signed six books including his most recent novel, Lisey's Story.
Most of the books will be given to local charities, though one was purchased by a customer who was in the store with King.
Ms Ellis added that it was common for authors to visit the shop, check if their books are on the shelves and sign some copies.
"If they're not on the shelves, they'll ask about them. It's embarrassing if we haven't got their work," she said.
King's representative in Australia told the media he was unaware the author was in the country.

a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, ..."
I am envisioning shades of "Carrie" here!, ja?

ha! I love that Lonnie - thanks ... Alice Springs is almost smack in the middle of Australia - pretty remote too ... it does kinda re-enforce my point about people coming to Perth tho in a round about way ;o)
I read this:
Here's the plan for revealing the cover for Under the Dome
UNDER THE DOME – Cover Reveal Copy
The jacket concept for UNDER THE DOME originated as an ambitious idea from the mind of Stephen King. The artwork is a combination of photographs, illustration, and 3-D rendering. This is a departure from the direction of King’s most recent, illustrated covers.
In order to achieve the arresting image for this jacket, Scribner art director Rex Bonomelli had to seek out artists who could do a convincing job of creating a realistic portrayal of the town of Chester’s Mill, the setting of the novel. Bonomelli found the perfect team of digital artists, based in South America and New York, whose cutting edge work had previously been devoted to advertisement campaigns. This was their first book jacket and an exciting venture for them. “They are used to working with the demands of corporate clients,” says Bonomelli. “We gave them freedom and are thrilled with what they came up with.”
This CGI (computer generated imagery) enhanced image looks more like something made for the big screen than for the page and is sure to make a lasting impact on King fans.
The multiple elements of this jacket art lend themselves perfectly to a unique, four-part jacket reveal campaign. The first aspect will be unveiled on September 21, followed by the release of additional images on September 25 and September 28, and culminating with the full reveal on October 5, when the world will see that everything is UNDER THE DOME.

Imagine that with a touch of "Lord of the Flies"......(I have heard that that is one of his favorite books).
I don't want to give too much away.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mills, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.
Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.
