Melissa (emtmelissa) Hi Everyone...I'm new to this epub thing and am not familiar with it at all. Can someone please explain epub, how I purchase or get books, how I get them onto my Nook and the lending process? Thanks a bunch :-)

Jeanine (jjelizalde) Epub is just another format for Nook books. You can easily "sideload" them (download via computer to your Nook).

SassySami | 22 comments You can buy books from B&N directly and they'll download automatically to your Nook the next time you're connected to wifi. Or, like Jeanine said, you can download books to your computer from other sources and just drag and drop them onto your Nook like you would any other external device.

Melissa (emtmelissa) Thanks...I have a whole mess of books that I have purchased from B & N. But I've been hearing all this stuff about epub...I was curious.

That's just the format BN publishes their ebooks in.

Melissa (emtmelissa) Thank you. For some reason I thought it was a different way to get books for my Nook other than through B & N. I also thought maybe there were more choices. Thanks for the explanations everyone :-)

Epub is the standard ebook format. It's used by virtually every ereader except Apple products and the Kindle and sold by most etailers (except Apple and Amazon.) So yes, it is a different way you can buy books for your Nook. There are many, many ebook sellers you can use other than B&N. Examples are Books on Board and Diesel. They often have good deals and coupon codes.

NookBooks are epub with a special DRM added, which means they can only be read on a Nook or Nook app. (Unless you break the DRM.) The opposite is not true -- you can read any epub book on your Nook.

Melissa (emtmelissa) Thanks!

Thera Lewis (thera1) | 124 comments You can get ePub books from pretty much anywhere, and you can still read them on your nook. That's why I went with nook over kindle. Kindle books you can only get from amazon, because they are mobi format.

Lilah Chavez (lilypadchavez408) | 55 comments also you can buy books from Smashwords (self publishers) and directly from Harlequin , sometimes it can be cheaper , especially if you have coupons from harlequin to buy so many in a purchase or just for buying on a certain day, etc.... when you download it goes to the "other storage available"section so it doesn't really take too much space on your Nook :)

Missyb | 221 comments epub is basically what jpeg is for pictures, it's basically universal. If you get a e-book from someplace other then B&N, get it in epub format.
