Cain Freeman (nobsbooks) | 41 comments Update: I have noticed several people posting just a link to their blog, maybe with a request to check it out. This entire post was made with the hopes of getting away from that. There are places to post links to your blog (Here) or for Follow 4 Follows (Here) so use those instead. I won't try to enforce my form, but please take it as a guideline, because it supplies information that is both useful for readers and other bloggers.

So, in almost all of the posts here, people vaguely refer to their blog. "hey, i have a book blog i started yesterday..." type stuff, which makes finding a blog that you are interested in very hard.

To combat this, I am going create a little Form to fill out. Supply the information requested and people will get an actual idea of your blog.

So, here's the form!

-Title

-Address

-About (Topic, style of content, release schedule, what genres do cover, is it even a book blog, pretty much sell yourself here)

-Do you do any unique series? Something other than reviews?

-Contact information (Email? Facebook? Twitter?)

(The following are optional)

-Interested in Guest Blogging?

If you come up with any that are missing, just post it here and I'll add it. This was put together in five minutes so I'm sure there are missing fields.

About

My co-blogger and I review a variety of books, most heavily focused on young adult, middle grade, and classics. We particularly enjoy fantasy.

We generally review books Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. The other days we post memes like Top Ten Tuesday, our own features like "Writing Rambles" or "If You Like Then Read", and author interviews. We sometimes post book personality quizzes.

We've hosted a few events, in which we read and discussed the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and L. M. Montgomery.

About I do weekly reviews on YA Novels. There isn't a genre I strictly adhere to, but science fiction and fantasy are my favorite genres, though I love so many pieces of realistic fiction.

Banned Books will be another focus for me, but I haven't yet finalized the approach I will take with them. Until I figure out exactly what I want to do regarding banned books, you won't be seeing any content focused on them. Procrastination is a tough disease to beat.

My posting frequency dropped drastically since I got back in college, but I do have old reviews from elsewhere to recycle if need be.

While other authors may be content to simply keep their stories in their books, the characters from the Phantom Squadron series aren't content to just be in one book a year ... so they blog here. The Hidden-In-Plain-Sight Ranch has five characters who post their thoughts on current events, but mostly talk about the circumstances under which they live in their books, a dystopian future in which they are fugitives. Although it's character-based, the Ranch does occasionally reblog other Tumblr posts and participate in the odd blog tour; on St. Patrick's Day, the Ranch hands participated in the blog tour for Conversations in the Abyss by Michael Brookes by having the characters interview the author.
The five characters (Cyrus Salem, Kitty Salem, Michika Salem, William White Bear, and Teresa Iles) post semi-regularly at the Ranch's Tumblr feed.

Critical reviews of every genre, but by far the most preferred is YA/fantasy. I aim for honesty in everything I post. I participate in a lot of Top Ten Tuesday memes and have my own weekly feature, YA Epidemics, in which I cover a different pesky YA trend that has been done too much. This is basically a blog by a book lover for book lovers. I try to post two or three reviews a week, but make sure to have at least one.

YA Epidemics is my active feature right now, but starting May I'll be having a montly indie feature as well. In addition to reviewing their book, I'll have a short interview with the author, teaser paragraph for his/her book, and link to where you can find it. More information can be found on my blog.

Cain Freeman (nobsbooks) | 41 comments Alright everyone!

In an effort to make this thread worthwhile, I am going to start going through blog by blog and giving my thoughts on how it could be improved. Remember, this is just one man's opinion, so don't take it too seriously.

The critiquing is open to the rest of you also, but keep it constructive. Saying "y u no have blue backround" is NOT constructive. However, saying "The pink and yellow background is pretty but makes it very hard to read. You should consider milder colors" is a useful piece of constructive criticism. Keep everything civil, etc. I hope we are all mature here.

Feel free it open up a dialogue with me, ask why I thought something, or whatever. I don't bite, and couldn't bite even if I wanted to. The internet makes a great muzzle.

That's all! Have a great night, and read a great book!

-About (Topic, style of content, release schedule, what genres do cover, is it even a book blog, pretty much sell yourself her..."

My eye is immediately drawn to the very far left of your blog (that is the "welcome" section--not your blog post). Maybe you should break that up, or move it. You might consider just having that information in a separate tab, or at the bottom of your posts, because the most important part of your blog, is the blog.

You should have at least one small photo in every post. People are less likely to look at a post that is pure text.

The very first left hand section has your Archive at top. This holy top position is for the most important
info/whatever you want here. Not sure Archives are the most important thing about your blog. Maybe your followers or a "search this blog" should be at the top instead.

I see you have a button, that's great! The colors don't really match up with your blog. Style is off. Maybe alter things to match. You could go a cream or rose colored rout. Also, maybe have a title image that is similar to your button at the top instead of plane text.

Hope this helps. I also have a blog that I'm looking for critique (posted above)

I checked out your site. I like your approach , highlighting multiculturalism and it's importance.
You must be a new site because many of your pages are still empty. Maybe you could put the follower bottom where visitors can easily find it. I like the images on the button as well "Heroism is colorless". good message, but you're saying any woman can do good things . I like the other two pictures also but I can't see the them clearly..

You're welcome. I saw the changes, I like how you but all the widgets on the Left side much more presentable. And don't worry you'll get the hang of it, it's not that hard.

Hi Libertad, it's great that you're posting in the group but I just want to point out that this topic is not for follow for follows and that no one is obliged to follow you back in this thread.

Sorry for any inconvenience, but there's a section of the group for that.
