Christina (iceprincess) | 4 comments I hope this is the right place for this. I came across a website that someone has added as a book. Should it be made not a book or deleted? Thanks

mlady_rebecca | 591 comments Delete it. We only "not a book" things that come from Amazon with an ISBN number attached.

In case GR cares to talk to the offender:

Christina (iceprincess) | 4 comments Thanks for responding. I'm still a little sketchy on the not a book thing. I have a new problem now though. I tried to delete it and it says only a superlibrarian can do it because it has so many reviews. It only has 1 review though.

mlady_rebecca | 591 comments Hmmm, I tried to delete it as well. No idea why it wants a super-librarian. Maybe because it isn't combined with anything.

Here's a good thread on "Not a Book-ing".

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Christina,

NOT A BOOK is for items that are not books but have ISBNs and are in the GR database. There are a LOT of them. If an item (map, doll, calendar, etc. etc. etc. etc.) has an ISBN there's no point in deleting it because Amazon will just put it back, so we NOT A BOOK it; that is, we make the author NOT A BOOK, and if we have time we also put NOT A BOOK before the title and in the type of edition.

Please note: sometimes there's an item that's not a book that's connected with the book that has ratings. If it seems that the raters meant to rate the actual book and not the related item, we combine that item with the book, noting the ISBNs, delete the NOT A BOOK item, and add it back into the database manually as NOT A BOOK.

After reading the thread Rebecca provided above and this post, if you're still confused, this is the place for your questions. You can always ask for help in this group.

Christina (iceprincess) | 4 comments Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

I think I understand the not a book now. I'd seen where it had been done a few times and read a little in a couple posts so I got the gist of it, but I wasn't 100% so I was just sort of avoiding it. I didn't want to mess something up. :)
