RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I heard a pretty cool story on willpower this morning on NPR:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/st...

How's your willpower? When's it strong? When's it not strong? What willpower strategies work for you? Other thoughts?

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments well, i am checking GR terminal coffee, tweets and email along with following ESPN sports news when i should be doing something much more productive. that sort of sum it up?

message 3: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I have very strong willpower when it comes to food, but it sometimes comes to blows with my desire to keep others happy.

I can easily walk through a grocery store and only buy the stuff I need. I can walk through a lunch room full of doughnuts - which I love - and say to myself "It's too bad somebody licked all of those" and convince myself to keep walking. Or allow my self to cut one piece (I have my own theory that the first bite always tastes best, so if I want it, I can always allow myself one bite of anything. Every bite after that will just be chasing the original high).

But if somebody buys me a treat, I will eat it because I don't want them to feel bad - and since Zu loves to bring me treats and I don't have the heart to say no, that's where I wind up in trouble.

Félix (habitseven) I think I remember licking that one.

Um ... I think it was kinda mapley flavored.

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Righto. I can pass. Unless Kate hands it to me and says "I got this just for you." Then I feel too guilty to say no.

Knarik When I decide to do something, and other people tell me that I won't be able to do that, or acheive my goal, I Always find( or try to find) willpower to do that "impossible" and to proof that I CAN.

I have a particularly feisty little red man who perches on my left shoulder and talks me into all sorts of bad situations.

I'm with Ivy: Willpower? What's that?

message 11: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) I once heard some comedian say they had plenty of WILLpower (I WILL have some more cake, thank you!) but no WON'Tpower.

message 12: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oscar and I are buddies in that regard.

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments You and Oscar are buddies? Do you know Bunbury as well?

Even if Burnbury did know of said operation, he would not be disposed to talk about it, sir.

Félix (habitseven) Yup.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments So then we're talking about secret Bunburyists? On the DL?

message 23: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Sally, I think I have the twin to your fiesty little red man on my shoulder... only she's a female who looks eerily like myself. She constantly whispers things to me like "chocolate mousse is good for you" and "you're not inhaling that deeply my dear".

I am attempting trying GOING to.... quit smoking in the next two weeks. :| We'll see how my willpower is then.
