Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Animals can be real, fake or even figures of speech

Animals can be claimed by finding the given word or an animal that fits that general category.

Humans with names/nicknames of animals will not work. Animal words used as verbs will not work ie snaked, wolfed, dogged, bear (a weight)...

Examples

Bird: robin, crow, cuckoo bird, mockingjay, eagle,

Cat: house cat, lion, tiger, leopard, puma, kitty,

Dog: labrador, beagle, chihuahua, pooch, canine, fido, mutt,

Snake: cobra, rattler, serpent, anaconda, python, boa

Wolf: grey wolf, red wolf, werewolf, maned wolf, African wild dogs, coyote

Bear: brown, black, polar, panda, teddy

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Meat: So something gory as in perhaps, the flesh hung loosely, while the blood dripped onto the floor.... wouldnt work? It is specific to an eating meat?
It needs to be specific to eating. It could be in the gory sense if it were say a werewolf or zombie attack where they were eating non-typical flesh. But in general gory say a chainsaw accident no.

Fruit: Would an insult like "You're a fruitcake". work?
For the food catergory I'd like the actual food. So no fruitcakes, using your noodle, or comatose vegetables etc. For the animal catergory I would be willing to take insults... I'll get FAQ's on those posted later tonight.

Bath: Is, She took a long bath OK?
It needs to mention the tub. Same concept with "she went to sleep", "She sat down", It is implied that the Furniture object is there but the text needs to mention the object.

FISH: Is a lobster classed as a fish?
It's not a fish but for the purpose of this challenge if it has gills and swims in water I will probably take it. So yes a lobster would work for a fish in this challenge.

Yes, figures of speech are acceptable.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) Thanks! And now I see it says that in the list LOL

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) Couple of questions:

Snake: If something "snakes" along, would that work as a figure of speech?

Foyer: Would "entryway" or "lobby" count?

╰⊱♥⊱╮ღ꧁Kathy,Ahmazing Book Faerie꧂ღ╭⊱♥≺ (mamabear7080) Meghan, I looked up Foyer, and it covers all of those, so it should be Ok, but Jennifer gets the final say,
The snake one is a bit tricky! I found heaps of "He snaked his arm around my waist" kind of quotes, but didnt feel those were right to use, as it comes under the animal category, and thats not really using it in an animal sense, whereas your one is more.

Jennifer H ★Meghan★ wrote: "Couple of questions:

I would say no to snakes (in that context) because it's a verb not a figure of speech (ie. slippery as a snake). As for foyer, yes it can be either of those.

message 17: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) Okay so just checking a "wolf whistle" wouldn't count?

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok, this may be a stupid question but an item is worth one point for one book for the one time it is mentioned in the book or is it a one point per item for the whole group as long as everybody is finished reading their books?

message 19: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Animals are kind of shady. I want to say yes to snakes along... but then that opens it up to a few other things that I wouldn't take so to make a simple clear cut rule I will say not used as a verb.

I will add that to the animal section now, for future reference.

Ok, it is kind of hard with oput a spread sheet to look at, so if I don't explain it well enough let me know.

It will depend on team size let's say for example the teams are 5 people. Then when you read a book and claim an item the team essentially gets 1/5th of a point. When another person claims that item another 1/5th of a point is given and so on. However, this is an all or nothing situation since it is a team challenge 4/5ths of the team can have claimed the item but the team will not get a point or even a partial point. The team only gets the point when everyone has claimed the item.

This is a bit different for the bonus item though. If all 5 members have read their book before the next item is posted and 3/5 or 4/5 have the bonus item then the team gets 1 point. If all 5 have the item then the team gets 2 points. Not quite the all or nothing, but the whole team has to finish in the week. If 1 person does not finish their book in the 7 days then no bonus point is given even if the other 4 have the item in time.

Clear as mud?

I need to know the answer to this one too...please ☺

Also would this work for cat:
cut it with the damn cat jokes.... (actually referring to a cat)

Also can we use a plural version of the word? cakes, stools, or snakes or does it have to be exact as above in the list??

Thanks!!

message 25: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Cat jokes will work and yes you can use plurals

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Animals are the easy category, almost any form of them will work.

Turtlecollector Dennis What about a baptismal pool?

I believe Dawn wants "pool" to be something you can swim in.

message 41: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Zakiya wrote: "For the GHOST bonus item, doesit have to be an actual ghost or can be something like "a ghost of a grin"?"

I'm going to have to defer to Dawn on this one. I'm not sure she allowing figures of speech for the bonus words.

message 42: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H ★Meghan★ wrote: "Would "hot tub" work for bath tub?"

I think you could bath in a hot tub so I'd say yes.

message 43: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Turtlecollector wrote: "What about a baptismal pool?"

It is something I hadn't thought of, but yes I'll take it. It may not be meant for swimming, but in all actuality it is a modified hot tub.

message 44: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) I would take figures of speech for bonus items. So ghost of a grin will work.

message 45: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) I would take hot tub for either bath tub or pool. It may not be the place for bathing, but it is more tub like than pool like. So either way.

Yes that will work.

JenniferJ | 0 comments for "foyer" would just entry be okay as long as it's plain it is an entryway? For example:

The kids stepped thru the entry and headed towards the bar.

message 49: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) For celebrity would rock star, movie star, pro athlete, etc. work, in those exact words? I hope that makes sense!

No, it is not meant for swimming, but since it is big enough to submerge people in I thought I would ask. I was a bit surprised to find it one of my books and I probably won't use it, since I have now found pool in a different book. However, it is nice to know I can go back to it if I need to.
