It's actually all right with brown sauce when it has been fried!

There was a 72oz steak challenge in a restaurant I visited in Amarillo. Looked awesome but I didn't attempt it (would have cost $72 if unfinished). I had a 20oz sirloin. Best steak I've ever had.

Michael Brookes (technohippy) This one was pretty tasty for the first half hour, not so much after that :-)

Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 328 comments 42oz is very impressive!

It looks really yummy in the picture and it doesn't look THAT huge but I guess when you have it in front of you on a plate it can look daunting.

Hahaha! Yes, anytime! Just don't make me eat cinnamon!

message 61: by Lance (new)

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) The most-read posts on my blog are connected to my near-future WIP South -- two about possible fashion trends in 2032 America, and another about future beauty trends. A fourth post about women in the Israeli armed forces is probably the next-most-popular.

I suspect the same people aren't reading all four.

message 62: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Now that is nicely eclectic :-)

message 63: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Here's a good tip for building blog readership:

message 64: by Luís (new)

Luís Azevedo (luisfazevedo) | 6 comments I had a HUGE spike with a post I made about Stephen King (a compilation of quotes on writing).
http://azevedosreviews.wordpress.com/... I'm guessing someone with a lot of followers on Facebook shared it, because all of the hits were coming from there.
I went from averaging 200/300 views to 8000 in one day. And once in a while I still get spikes from it.

message 65: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Triberr has done great things for my readership.

message 66: by Robert (new)

Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 328 comments I'm definitely going to check Triberr out, it seems pretty interesting! I've found recently that movie reviews of just released movies get a sharp spike of views.

message 67: by David (new)

David Hadley Apparently what is really popular are either pictures of under-dressed young ladies, and/or pictures of cute cats doing cute things... or people falling over in novel ways.

Meanwhile, according to the stats, the current most popular post on my blog is called 'A Lamppost', which - if it is about anything, which I doubt - is about... well... a lamppost.

message 68: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments The most popular post on my blog is my review of The Croods from back in March. It gets 3 times more hits than any other post, even now.

I'd second that, my post 'Marks and Spencer knicker adverts' continues it's inexorable rise

At least until they start using cheaper elastic in them, then watch them plummet.

message 71: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Virtual knicker elastic seems to last pretty well

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments who put knicker elastic in my bra?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Did Simon sneak into your room at the meet-up?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments i had a room?
why'd i wake up on the bar then?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Dave probably pushed you out of the room for snoring!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments i don't snore

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yeah right. I don't either.

message 78: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Is this argued on the lines of "I know I don't snore, I've never woken myself with my snoring?"

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Erm.

Actually, I have.

*blushes*

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments So have I!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Annnnndddd

Patti and GL drag yet another thread completely off topic.

Sheesh.

Sorry folks.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh dear. What was this tread supposed to be about?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We better stick to author threads GL.

They're never about anything.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments particularly Darren's. and Will's.

message 85: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I thought it was only threads I started which ended up burned out at the side of the road surrounded by piles of discarded underwear

message 86: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I have posted about how I've been building my blog's readership, which may be of interest to people:

Rosie Morgan (rosiemorgan) Hi Michael,
Had a really brief look at your blog - looks really helpful, I'll be having a good read of it.
Thanks
Rosie

Jim | 21809 comments I took on board your comment about Triberr but haven't yet been able to work out which particular tribe I belong to?

I mean, what category do you file http://jandbvwebster.wordpress.com/ under? (and this is a serious question)

message 90: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Your blog does appear to be all over the place :-) Who is written for? From the setup it's you as an author, so go for the writing or book tribes.

I think there are some generalist blogger tribes, but they tend to be marketing focused.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments tribes?
is there a bacon tribe?
i so want there to be a bacon tribe

message 92: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Mmmm bacon.

Early on I discovered that no one bothered reading the blog when I just wrote about the wonder that is Jim, or the brilliance of his writing, or even about books in general.
But if I wrote about Horsemeat or Marks and Spencers Knicker Adverts I got three or four times as many hits.

Occasionally I smuggle in a mention of books but it doesn't appear to be what people want to read.
Lesbians in fast cars on the other hand.........

message 95: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Everyone likes lesbians in fast cars.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments got a train story Jim?
would go nicely before my journey tomorrow

And all true :-)
Tales of ordinary extraordinary people, caught on good days, bad days, or just being themselves.
With a border collie story thrown in because they add the necessary touch of class to tales which might otherwise be only about hairless bipeds with opposed thumbs.
OK, check above and tell me which tribe to I belong to ;-)
