Ken B | 6810 comments What is your average GR rating? Based on how many ratings? Do you think this is a fair representation of the books you have read?

BTW, you can find those bits of data on your GR profile page under your picture.

Ken B | 6810 comments I have an average of 3.73 rating based on 463 ratings.

I do believe this is fair and I would expect it to trend up a bit as I tend to look for books that carry higher ratings based on peer reviews.

I have been reading several indie publications though lately and that may have the tendency to hold the overall rating down as, lets be honest, there is a reason SOME indie publications never found a publisher (I didn't say all indie publications! So, get your panties out of a bind!).

4.15 average based on 778 ratings.

I read what I want and know what I like, so my average would naturally trend high.

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) 4.22 based on 1,829 ratings

Tiffany I rate at a 3.00 average based on 645 ratings. Yes, it is a fair representation. I think I'm a harsher critic than most. I read from several genres, but generally I'm looking for something that doesn't feel formulaic. I want to be entertained, but I also want to be challenged either emotionally or intellectually. That being said, I'll admit that some of the books I've given low ratings I only read out of obligations to either school or book clubs.

Also, I will not rate a book if I have not finished reading it.

3.64 average based on 96 ratings.

I think it's pretty fair I guess. I'm surprised it isn't higher actually because I know I rate high. Especially for novellas which I've been reading a lot of. I'm also only counting books/novellas that I've read since joining goodreads so I have a smaller library.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 964 comments I'm with Jon on this one. My ratings are averaging pretty high only because I am selective about what I read. Most of the chances I have taken on new authors have turned out to be good choices, too.

message 8: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments 3.95 average based on 259 ratings.

I actually thought that the average looked a bit high, but since I rarely read a book that has not been recommended by my GR friends I believe it to be a good representation of the books that I have read.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Mines 3.26 based on 26 book. I been on here for 2years yet have only read 26 books listed..yeah I dont read much. I dont mind my rating I guess.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Ha. Mine is 3.99 and I've rated 751 books. It's right on the money because I usually only give books that my friends or well-trusted writers/publications have raved about. I have very little time to squeeze in reading in my hectic life and I'm not going to waste it on books I have an inkling aren't any good or are too formulaic for my taste; and if I start a book and this is the case, I stop reading and don't rate them. There are times I do follow through with a not-so-hot book, and it's usually just to find out how it ends. Then I will rate it.

5 - 35% - 269
4 - 34% - 261
3 - 22% - 169
2 - 5% - 41
1 - 1% - 9

I got most of the crap out of the way in the late '70s- early '80s.

If I added that stuff, my average would drop to a low 2.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Looking through my books it seems like most of my low ratings come from the romance and young adult I read. They're lowing my average. My horror would actually be a little higher.

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments 284 ratings 3.41 avg,

message 14: by Kate (new)

Kate | 3525 comments 398 ratings with a 4.27 average.

So far I haven't made much of a dent in books by authors I'm not familiar with. Once I get started expanding my author base my rating may drop a bit. That being said I trust quite a few people on his site when it comes to recs so I know whatever the suggestions are it's less likely that I'll hate it.

message 15: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1434 comments 476 ratings with a 3.71 rating. I think this fair. I tend to start every book with a 3 star rating and either add or subtract from there. I read across many different genres and have books in that average that I had to read for classes so i'm not surprised my average rating hovers slightly above 3.

message 16: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments Mine is 3.84 out of 654 ratings. I think it's fair as most of my books get a 3-5 rating with some clunkers thrown in.

message 17: by Donna (new)

Donna | 49 comments Mine is 4.10 based on 844 ratings. I stick to the genre I like (horror) and generally read known authors (or ones recommended) so I know what to expect.
Have only given 2 star ratings to 5 books as I will not rate a book unless I have finished it. Most times, if a book is not sustaining my interest within the first couple of chapters, I don't finish it, and hence don't rate it.
