❀Abbi and Dawn❀ Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I'm not quite halfway, but we can start talking about it. :)

I love the fact that Nate wanted Susanna to know him as the man and not the prince. And Susanna's friend, Auora, I wonder if she's so intuned to God's will that it frequently comes out wacky.

I like the fact too that Susanna is trying to not allow her feelings for Nate be a rebound.

Abbi Ok!

I loved that too! I was especially impressed with how willing and even happy he was to do the work at the Rib Shack! Most normal people would be mad to be stuck cleaning toilets but he jumped in and did an above average job!

I think that is the case with Auora.

Yeah that definitely shows maturity on her part!

I thought it was interesting how Susanna found out that Nate was the prince by the coin he accidentally used. I was also glad that there wasn't a huge blow up but that they both handled it decently well!

Susanna's mom cracks me up! I love her no nonsense attitude and how everyone just does what she asks/tells them to with little to no argument!

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I also thought that it was interesting the way that Susanna found out about Nate. I'm sure she'd have much rather found out that way as opposed to the media or something.

This book reminds me so much of Lori Wick's The Princess. The fact that a commoner and a prince marry. I have to keep reminding myself that the prince in this book is Nate not Nick!

Abbi I thought the same thing! I love that book!

I can't imagine how it would be to be in a relationship with someone for 12 years and then have it end so abruptly even if you realized it was for the best. It was also kinda ridiculous how quickly he proposed to the other girl!

The scene where Nate (now you've got me thinking Nick instead of Nate and I almost typed that) tells Susanna why he wouldn't be able to marry her was kinda awkward! I was proud of him for being upfront with her but it had to have been uncomfortable!

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I"m not that far yet....I brought When Love Calls to work today. LOL.

I can't imagine being in a relationship with the man I'd thought I'd marry for 12 years and then have it end so abruptly. I admit, I've had my heart broken (pretty badly actually), but I've never been in a relationship to the point of talking marriage.

Abbi SORRY!!!! My brain is trying to function on two hours of sleep while babysitting and I forgot to look where that was!

The one thing I would hate about living in a small community is that everyone knows everything! I felt so bad for Susanna how everyone knew what happened before she even told them! But at the same time it would be nice to have everyone care.

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments True. There are definite advantages and disadvantages to a small community. I'm in the big city. And though I went to college in a small town, I still wanted the city.

I think that there are parts of small town life I'd enjoy, and the close community is one of them.

I should easily be able to finish the book this weekend. The last couple of nights, I've come home exhausted and collasped into bed without cracking open a book! Shocking, I know right?

Abbi I haven't overly experienced either setting since we live on a "farm" out in the country. We have neighbors but the majority are elderly.

So I'm a little confused-are you done with the first half or is that what you are planning on finishing this weekend or are you done with the first half and plan on finishing the book this weekend?

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I'm almost done with the first half. But I should have the entire book finished over the weekend.

message 11: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi Ok! I'll try to finish it soon too!

message 12: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Take your time. I'm just trying to finish so I can snag a book I want from booksneeze on the 22nd.

message 13: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi :) Well I'm participating in a read-a-thon so I'll probably have it finished sooner rather than later!

message 14: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments LOL! I can't do read-a-thons with my crazy work schedule and running my business.

message 15: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi Yeah I can see how that would make them difficult!

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I'm up to where Susanna and Avery are in Brighton for Nate's coronation. I get the idea that his family's plan to have Nate realize that he's not in love with Susanna is going to backfire big time! But I have to admit that Nate is pretty awesome. He's willing to put what is best for his country above his own heart.

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I loved it! It's a perfect fairy tale. And I love how Nate remembered everything that Susanna said needed to happen before she falls in love.

I also loved how his mother realized how conniving Lady Ginny was BEFORE Nate proposed and that she wouldn't have been a good choice for queen.

message 18: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi Yeah that definitely backfired in a big way!!

I loved it too! And I agree it was the perfect fairy tale! I absolutely loved that!

Haha yeah I was glad she figured that out when she did too! I would hate to have that type of person as my queen!

I was really proud of how Susanna realized just how great of a king Nate would be and so she tried her best to remove herself from the picture. I can't imagine how painful giving someone up like that would be.

I would have been mortified if I had been the one making the accidental social faux pas but I was really impressed with how Susanna didn't let it get to her and kept her head up.

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I think that's why she didn't tell him that she loved him. She knew he could never marry her unless a miracle happened, so she wanted him to be able to move on and find a queen that met the requirements.

I also loved the proposal. Especially with her family tailgating her engagement. That had to be a sight to see!

I took this one over to my mom this afternoon. I figured that Mom would enjoy it too.

Avery. Oh my gosh. I loved her! And to know that she's also captured the heart of a prince. I can see the entire Truitt family moving to Brighton and Susanna's parents opening up a BBQ place there too. I'd love to read Avery's story next.

But I wonder if the next in this series would be about the long-lost princess?

It was also fun to see Prince William and Catherine make cameos in the book. Like most of the world, I watched (what I could of it) their wedding on tv and love anything that has to do with them.

message 20: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi Haha yeah Avery was great! Having the whole Truitt family in Brighton would definitely be amusing and I agree that it would be cool to have Avery's story!

That would make sense.

It was cool.

I found it very interesting that Henry was the man that Campbell wanted to marry all those years ago! I can't imagine what it would be like to constantly be around each other like that. I was glad that they seem to be starting something now!

I thought it was cute how Gracie fell in love with her sailor even though she "didn't want to".

I laughed out loud when they mentioned that Glo almost put a plaque in their restaurant saying that the king of Brighton had cleaned toilets there!

message 21: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments And I loved that Nate expressly told Henry that he had the permission and approval of the king to persue Campbell. I also can't imagine what it would be like to be around each other constantly like that either.

Yes Gracie's denial was cute. She was afraid I think.

I bet that Glo DOES put a sign in the Shack stating that King Nathaniel of Brighton, and their son-in-law, scrubbed toliets there! It'd be hilarious.

I really enjoyed this book. I'll be ready to start Gone South any day. My copy's in route, so if you have a copy, go ahead and start it. Because if mine is delivered today, I won't be pick it up from my apartment's office til Wednesday at the earliest.

message 22: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi I loved Nate telling Henry that too!

Haha

I enjoyed it too! I have my copy of Gone South but I have some other things to read first so I'll just wait a couple days to start it. Do you want to do halves again? It be 1-18, 19-epilogue.

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Halves is fine.

You know I enjoyed this one so much that I might just have to reread it! LOL. But it'll be after I get it back from my mom.
