Andrew Barnes | 13 comments Hey guys!

So I am just about to start my third year of college this fall (WOOT WOOT) and I am looking for to compile a list of summer reading books!

So here is what I am looking for!

Books that are fun to read! I don't want to feel like it is work, just reading for fun!
I love all types of genres so feel free to post anything!

Thanks!!!

Dee (austhokie) | 618 comments do you have any favorite authors? for quick easy reads - I like folks like James Rollins and his Sigma Force series or Matthew Reilly - they are quick easy reads; you do have to suspend disbelief a bit (ok, quite a bit), but i've enjoyed them

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Elizabeth Berg writes good women's fiction that isn't too heavy.

If you really want something light ... the Miss Julia books by Ann B Ross are delightful.

Andrew Barnes | 13 comments Thank you both so much! I will look into all of those!

Willett Thomas | 5 comments Hello Andrew (and others!),

I'm not sure if this falls within your summer reading genres, but if you favor literary fiction that ask moral questions, please consider including on your list, Raised by Hand, Lifted by the Tides--A Southern Child's Memoir. Think To Kill a Mockingbird and/or The Secret Lives of Bees.

All the best (Andrew, have a great third year!),

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments There is a light mystery series by Chris Grabenstein that is set in a seaside amusement park in the tourist town of Sea Haven, New Jersey. They are fun reads to me, and I like the two main protagonists. The first novel in the series is Tilt-a-Whirl.

Andrew Barnes | 13 comments Willett---Thank you much! I will look into those (The Secret Life of Bees is on of my all time favorites!)

Tracey---I will have to shelf that book! You are the third person to tell me to read it in a month!

Dorie---Those sound great! Thank you so much!

Suzanne McNear | 4 comments You might like my novel Knock Knock, just out and very funny in spite of endless ups and downs for March Rivers who tells the story.

Andrew Barnes | 13 comments Thank you Suzanne!

message 11: by Kayla (new)

Kayla De Leon (kayladeleon) If it's YA, I recommend reading The Diviners by Libba Bray, The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver and The Chemical Garden Series by Lauren DeStefano and Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler.

For adult fiction, A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness but both are a bit lengthy. The Newsflesh trilogy by Mira Grant and Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult.

For classics, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Catcher in the Rye by Holden Caulfield.

Kayla De Leon (kayladeleon) Oops wait, that was suppose to be The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger!!!! HAHAHA!!!!! Sorry i couldn't edit on my phone :)

message 13: by Julie (new)

Julie (scrapsofhistory) If you like conspiracy theories I would recommend anything by Brad Meltzer. He also has a show on The History Channel.

message 14: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barnes | 13 comments Kayla! It's like you had me pegged already! I've read all of Libba Bray's work and Daniel Handler is one of my favorites!

I will check out the other things though!

And Julie, thank you! I will look into those as well!

Theresa | 15 comments Appears you have many suggestions, but, if you need another, try DANCING NAKED IN THE RAIN, (the 2010 Indie Next Generation of Writers Romance Winner. The sequel to it is STARS WALKING BACKWARD. They are the 'you can't put them down' kind. Happy reading. Dancing Naked in the Rain by Cavender Theresa Cavender

message 25: by Sterling (new)

Sterling Gate Books (sterlinggatebooks) | 5 comments Can I recommend a conspiracy thriller series co-written by son James and myself? It's The Orphan Trilogy (The Ninth Orphan / The Orphan Factory / The Orphan Uprising)... and it's currently rated the Best Trilogy/Book Series EVER! on Goodreads... https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Happy reading! -Lance Morcan
