Andrew Finazzo (johnyqd) | 343 comments I'll admit the hook in the advertising for this that deems it the next Gone Girl grabbed my attention. Hopefully this praise wasn't too overblown since Gone Girl was one of my absolute favorite books last year - it sizzles!

An accidental peek at the chapter layout and a preview of the plot show a definite structural similarity. It also, at first glance, reminds me of the movie Catfish (but in reverse maybe).

Although unintentional autobiographies have been left for ages via diaries and correspondence I do think that the modern well that contains a vast amount of sustained digital information about people opens up a true avenue of historical reconstruction for the generations just behind mine.

Life brought me into a bookstore recently and I commented then on the "me too" covers that mimic the style of Gone Girl's flying hair. You could almost clip the Gone Girl cover image out of this books picture. Neither cover grabs my attention, they almost look like movie stills which are a style of cover that always turns me away.

My final thought before jumping in to this has to do with the epigraph. This mesmerizing quote by Woolf has invigorated and excited me as I prepare to digitally turn the first page. It makes me think that there will be a well thought out story here and that it will not be a simple rehash of Flynn's novel.

Michelle Finazzo | 281 comments I have the first cover with a young girl mostly covered in a large black sweater or blanket. I started reading the book before posting about the cover. I assume the girl on the cover is supposed to be Amelia. Having now read a description of Amelia, I am annoyed her eyes are almost completely concealed since she is supposed to have 2 different colored eyes.

I'm not wild about either cover. I don't think either one would necessarily attract my attention if they were sitting on a book shelf.

I am really hoping for an intense, mother-as-detective plot. I hope the author has a Gillian Flynn knack for creating suspense by controlling character viewpoints and story time frames.
