How should the sequel proceed for Rhett to love Scarlett again?(Lets pretend that Scarlett:the sequel didn't happen)

This book has haunted me ever since I turned the last page and everyday I think of how the sequel should proceed...The most convincing story I came up with is that Scarlett trys hard to be kind because Rhett says that he starved for some kindness and respect in the end and that there would be a chance if she would change...

Personally, I have always felt as though Rhett never stopped loving Scarlett. They had a fire and brimstone relationship. The challenge in her eyes, her passion, her strength, the way nothing came easy with her...that is what he loved about her. I believe if she suddenly became conciliatory he would lose interest. Scarlett would return to Tara...and return to her flirting ways before the war...before long, Rhett would hear of it and come back to claim what is his...which of course would be her plan all along. Remember, Scarlett always had a plan.

I think you are right, Victoria. I never believed Rhett would have to fall back in love with Scarlett--he would never have stopped loving her in my mind. Their story was so passionate--passionate in love and passionate in bitterness. Scarlett would have to always be strong in order for Rhett to come back--he loved her strength. Maybe she should write Rhett a telegraph and demand a divorce so she can marry someone else. Can you imagine his reaction! I can and it would be great fireworks.

I enjoyed Rhett Butler's People. It's Rhett's story before, during, after GWTW. I thought the story and characters were more true to GWTW. I didn't care for Scarlett.

Ashlee Haynie I agree! I really liked Rhett Butler's People. I know Mitchell never planned to write a sequel, but I thought RBP was really respectful of GWTW and it ...more

This is my fav book and movie and when we had to watch it in drama i was so excited. I remember after the movie and test we had on it our teacher told us to make up our own ending and then she told us what the sequel said. I came up with Scarlett going back to Tara, making amends with her sisters, and rebuilding her reputation, then she goes to a party and see's Rhett (like the first time at 12 oaks) and finds out once the divorce is done he will marry Bell but after proving to Rhett that she loves him, Bell decides to let him go because she truly loves him and knows he truly loves Scarlett. So Scarlett and Rhett get back together, and have another child that they love very much, and they live happliy ever after :)

There should never have been a sequel. The ending was magnificent as it was.

Christine Neither have I. According to the liner notes that came with the 1967 commemorative soundtrack LP, Margaret Mitchell would only say, "I don't know," wh ...more

If at all there's a sequel, I'd want it from Rhett's perspective. He's a complex character in his own right, and it would be very interesting to see him pick up the reins and take the story forward.

I don't count Alexandra Ripley's Scarlett as an actual sequel because it wasn't written by Margret Mitchell. It read too much like bad fanfic for me, so I just ignore it.

I can't even imagine a sequel to GWTW. I loved the ending so much. The Rhett/Scarlett/Ashley love triangle is one of my favorite.

I thought that Gone With the Wind did not need a sequel at all, but if I had to come up with a different ending, I'd say that Scarlett would move on with her life and realize that she is a tough old bitch, who doesn't need a man to fulfill her life. Now that's Woman's Lib.
