How much inspiration do you need to write?

I've got an M.A. in Modern American Lit and I taught English and writing professionally for 35 years but I had always secretly wanted to be a novelist. Once I finally got the chance (about four years ago), I sat my butt down and cranked out four full length novels, a collection of short stories and two novellas. Professional writers who have taken the time to read them say that they are very good but who cares? Let's be honest: Money inspires me. I have a finely honed talent that took me decades to develop, along with traveling the world and observing the human condition, but the fact that everybody is upchucking online these days and smut for women rules the day and the marketplace makes me ask the question: Why bother? Fishing is more fun, less stressful and, even if I don't catch anything, I always have a great time.

No argument out of me - fishing should be everyone's sport. Most don't realize it yet, or have never been with us fishing. Certain things go a long way to restoring the soul; fishing is one of the many. Cheers, Don

Have you ever considered using your training and experience to capitalize on everyone who is jumping into self publishing now? Between editing, consulting and PR you could probably generate a nice side income for yourself. You wouldn't even have to give up fishing...
Have fun.

That marketplace is already way too crowded. Besides, it would be just like teaching which I have had my fill of.
