I finished this book today. This is the first book I have read by Cynthia Eden. I enjoyed it very much, loved the suspense thoroughout the whole book, which keep me reading until finished. I was happy to see that Dr. Drake ended up not being evil and her and Colin did get through the end together. I was actually thinking that Dr. Drake was the killer for awhile. I have started the second book "Midnight Sins."

This is also my first Cynthia Eden book. I enjoyed it also.
Dr. Emily Drake is a therapist to the "Others", vamps that have blood phobia's, or sex-demons looking for a meaningful relationships. Detective Colin Gyth is asked to bring her to a scene to determine if the murder was done by an "other". Upon seeing him Emily's sensitivies that she possesses allows her to sence Colin's tightly held secret that he is a shape shifter himself.
This was good, but don't think it's a paranormal romance, it's more a paranormal erotica as you really don't get the "romance" feeling at all in this book. There was no real "tender" or slow moments in this book, the sex was hot, fast and animalistic throughout the book, but there was enough of a plot to counterbalance the sex scenes. I look forward to reading more in this series. . .
Ladies, Thanks for your input. I have just started the book. It seems that many of my favorite authors also published books this month. I am have completed two chapters and love it so far.
I finished Hotter After Midnight and enjoyed it. I will probably also continue on to Midnight Sins. Rather than Brooks, whose story I do want to know, I would have the liked the next book to be about Captain McNeal and the ME, Dr. Smith.
I understand the comment that it seems a bit more erotica than romantic, but I saw that as a reflection of Colin's animalistic nature.
Overall, I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I do have a few problems with the book. I would have liked more characher development. Why did Emily's mother think she was evil and why did her father kill himself? Did he see monsters also, was he a demon and grew sick of hiding?
I am giving this book 3 stars.
I have to admit when I finished the book this morning, I looked around at all the "humans" on the bus and wondered ;)
I recently completed
Midnight Sins, Midnight, Book 2,the story of Cara Maloan and Todd Brooks. I actually liked it better than Hotter After Midnight. The third book in the Midnight Trilogy, Midnight Master, is due out July 1, 2009 and is the story of Niol Lapen and reporter Holly Storm.

Succubus Cara Maloan (a singer at Niol's night club) and Atlanta detective Todd Brooks. Unlike her sister succubi, Cara wants a meaningful relationship with a man. Cara is also a patient of Dr. Emily Drake because it is not normal for succubi to not want to have sex with hundreds of men. The energy exchanged in the sexual act enables a succubus to live.
Oh, dear me! I thought I'd posted my thoughts on this book, and obviously, I hadn't! *gasp* I should be shot for that! LOL!
I agree, the characters could have used a little more development. There wasn't enough to explain Emily's past precisely enough for me; I'd have liked to know more.
I liked the plot, it had me turning pages well after I should have gone to bed. The characters were entertaining enough, but I wouldn't say completely memorable as of yet. The 'love' scenes were very steamy and just the way I like 'em... perfect! LOL! If someone puts this under erotica, I wonder what a 'normal' love scene is to them. I will most definitely continue with the series, when I can get my hands on them.
May rating would be: 4 stars

Oh! Wow! Hot! Steamy! FANtastic!!! Darn good chance that
Midnight's Master, Midnight Trilogy, Book 3, will be one of the best paranormal romance novels that I will read in 2010. I found Niol Lapen the most interesting secondary character in the first two books. His was the story for which I was waiting and author Cynthia Eden did not disappoint me. I was concerned that a heroine strong enough for Niol would not be likeable, but Holly Storm had me on her side from the beginning to the last scene. I regret that this is the end of the series, but what a high note on which to end things. Great story, plot driven with an increasing body count as the story continues, and abundant suspense with threats to hero and heroine. I am giving Midnight's Master five stars.
