Donna | 41 comments I would love to read more books where the hero is not who they think he is. Call me a "Clark Kent" addict. I especially love ones before the 1900's. any suggestions?

Laura (laura-seagull) | 51 comments The Rogue Knight is the first one that comes to my mind, too. She also wrote Weathered too Young which has a similar feel. I will browse my shelves to see if I can come up with any others!

Gerrie | 16 comments I really enjoyed a very sweet Regency romance by Carola Dunn, The Frog Earl. A nobleman is working as a bailiff, and falls for a princess who - of course - doesn't know he's an aristocrat. It's charming and clean.

Donna | 41 comments Thanks! I can't wait to read it! I read one a while back about an arranged marriage and he is determined to discover her true colors before the marriage and poses as a clergy. Sound familiar to anyone?

Carola Dunn's Regencies are high quality reads. My favourite to date is "The Road To Gretna".

Gerrie | 16 comments Monya, I haven't read that one, and look forward to doing so. I wish that Carola Dunn's Regencies were better known; I agree that they're very high quality reads. I especially liked her Rothschild Trilogy (and particularly the first two books of the trilogy) which were a terrific blend of history and romance during the Napoleonic wars.

Emmy (emmyt956) Donna, I read a book that had a similar plot - the hero posed as a curate specifically - Incognito by Suzanne Allain. Had a very Georgette Heyer feel to it. I really enjoyed it.

Donna | 41 comments Thank you! Incognito is the book I was thinking of. Loved it! I just finished The Frog Earl and really enjoyed it. Got any more suggestions?

message 9: by Emmy (new)

Emmy (emmyt956) Glad I could help. As for other suggestions, Lady Pamela kind of falls in this category. The heroine thinks the hero is a coach driver for much of the book, even after he presents himself as a lord (which he is). It's a pretty good read.

Animalia | 14 comments I'd recommend Of Paupers and Peers or Bath Revels. Both are very enjoyable. :)

Gerrie | 16 comments The heroine in Libby's London Merchant has two suitors - the local doctor, and a duke disguised as a chocolate salesman. It was written by the great Carla Kelly, and is a wonderful book.

I want to recommend Lord Carew's Bride by Mary Balogh, but am a bit hesitant. It's an absolutely wonderful book. The heroine meets the hero, a marquess who's a plain man with a bad limp, but is a lovely person. She's under the impression he's a landscape architect, and he doesn't correct her mistake as he's tired of people playing up to him because of his wealth and title. It's a favorite book of mine, but I read it a while ago, and can't remember if there's some sex in the book. So I would have to recommend it with that caveat.

Mary (greenstripedzebra) I would like to recommend Merely A Mister by Sherry Lynn Ferguson. I absolutely love all her Regency books; The Honorable Marksley, Quiet Meg, Major Lord David, Lord Sidley's Last Season and Merely A Mister. They are all clean and, in my opinion, excellent. The characters are very well done and the endings are just lovely.

In Merely a Mister, Lord Hayden conceals his identity while investigating complaints from local farmers concerning the high rents his father, the Duke of Braughton, charges the farmers. Lord Hayden also appeared in Quiet Meg and Major Lord David. So, I was quite happy to finally read his story.

Regina Jennings (regina_jennings) | 15 comments This is an inspirational read, and it's great. Jody Hedlund's A Noble Groom by Jody Hedlund . Have to love that cover.

Sheri South | 22 comments Thanks to Animalia and Soph for recommending my book, Of Paupers and Peers! Of Paupers and Peers by Sheri Cobb South I'm glad you both enjoyed it. Although the hardcover is out of print, it's available in all ebook formats, and I'm getting ready to bring it out in trade paperback.

I second this! I especially LOVED The Honorable Marksley, it is entrancing! Just finished reading them about a week ago.

Donna | 41 comments Just finished Libby's London Merchant and loved it too! You guys are awesome! Keep those suggestions coming! Thanks!!!

Gerrie | 16 comments I just finished a wonderful clean historical romance Eye of the Wind by Jane Jackson. The hero is the younger son of a marquess, and has to go into hiding. He takes a job as a carpenter at the shipyard owned by the heroine's family. The heroine has been running the shipyard because her father has been debilitated, and she comes to rely on the hero's support and advice. As they fall in love, she worries that he is just too far below her socially for them to have a future.

The book is set in Cornwall during the mid 1790's, and is a beautiful love story, with a real authentic historical feel.
