Writing exercise--"Create a Setting" Guessing Game

I checked behind me one last time before I took off running. I could see them in my peripheral still chasing me. This was an unfair battle. Six gun men against one. I ran towards the parade in hopes that I would get lost in the crowd of over a million people. The one thing that would mess it all up, I'm nearly the only person not wearing a mask. I'm in an all black suit while everyone else is decorated in purple green and gold.
I snatched a gold mask off of the table of a salesmen. By the time he yelled for me to pay, I disappeared through the crowd.

Downtown L.A?

I hopped off the subway quickly. It felt so good to be home. I couldn't wait to surprise Big Mama. I'd been out of prison for three weeks now, but I wanted to wait to see her until today because today would be special. Today was her birthday. She had no idea I was getting out on parole.
I breathed in the air. Mostly pollution and foul scents, but nonetheless it was refreshing for me. I stopped at a stand and got me a famous Cheesesteak. Couldn't get it better anywhere else but here.
It's been eight years. I nearly forgot which brownstone townhouse was Big Mama's considering they all look the same. Until I saw the flower pot hanging on her porch. Definitly Big Mama's.
(what city)

New York

I was so humiliated. I couldn't believe Rob cancelled on me last minute. But I was determined to see Destiny's Child's 3rd Member in the play as Shug even if it meant going alone.
I stepped out of my vehicle and my breath was nearly taken away from the heavy cold winter breeze. Whoever named this city "The Windy City" must have been from the North Pole because windy was an understatement. Fatally artic would be more fitting.

SCENE:
I paid my fare and exited the cab.
"No tip", the cab driver barked as the back door slammed shut.
I reached into my wallet to grab a couple bucks but the incandescent billboards commanded my attention. As I did a complete 360, the driver sped off, probably barking more obscenities at me, but I didn't care. I was immediately captivated by the busied street that was filled with people and commerce in every single direction. My eyes weren't the only thing experiencing sensory overload, a mesh of conflicting cuisines, fuel exhaust, and waste assaulted my nose as I inhaled and exhaled deeply upon the realization that I had finally arrived at a place I dreamed of visiting, but now I was here for good. I grabbed my luggage and rolled down seventh avenue going nowhere in particular, but determined to find and live my dream.
