I'm looking to source beta readers but from some of the posts I've read in other Goodreads groups, it is a tricksy business indeed. Does anyone have any tips on how to find reliable ones? I've been reading some scary stories about beta readers who you never hear back from or worse, who rip off your story ideas.
Any advice?
Thank you in advance!

You're right; I think it's just a matter of having faith and 'speculate to accumulate' as they say.
Cate, thank you so much for the offer. I am entering a short story competition and as my friends are all biased (!), I would like an objective eye on my story. The genre is fantasy and right now, it is at draft stage. You could send me a message with your email address and we could get the ball rolling?

He is really quite cute. Mary Filmer Children's Author

If you'd like to know more before reading the excerpt here is a short blurb about the story:
Here's a quick blurb about the novella if you'd like a bit more information:
Sun li strives to live by the Code, the ancient creeds of her people. But when her father's life hangs in the balance, her beliefs will be tested. Desperate to save him, she takes a job as a hired blade with an undersider named Brit. And soon it becomes not a question of whether her father will survive, but will she?
Set in a futuristic world where human augmentation seems like the only way ahead, this is a cautionary tale about those who will pay any price to get what they want. A dying world, global war, and a crime-ridden city all form the backdrop for the sci-fi adventure, The Jammer and the Blade.
If anyone would like some proof reading help, you can PM me!! My book won't be finished for a couple of months, but once I'm done with it I would like to exchange it with you as an "assurance" that we won't steal each others work.
If there's some kind of online contract that would be good though??

Carrying on from my previous post, I will proofread anything EXCEPT erotica and romance.
