Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
Published 2013

Snowman, known as Jimmy before mankind was overwhelmed by a plague, is struggling to survive in a world where he may be the last human, and mourning the loss of his best friend, Crake, and the beautiful and elusive Oryx whom they both loved. In search of answers, Snowman embarks on a journey–with the help of the green-eyed Children of Crake–through the lush wilderness that was so recently a great city, until powerful corporations took mankind on an uncontrolled genetic engineering ride.

It has been a very long time, schnappers. Time to get back on track.

If you took a look at the poll, you'll know that for the month of July we are reading a book by a Canadian author (to our non-Canadian friends, we are sorry we couldn't accommodate you!). Margaret Atwood is probably the most popular Canadian author of our time and if you've read any of her books, you can understand why.

The only other book I've read from her collection is the Handmaid's Tale and it is one of my all time favourites. My sister, who is an English Literature major, was pretty excited when I told her we would be reading Oryx and Crake. She called it Atwood's best piece.

Happy reading, everyone!

Why are pigs always so scary in dystopian novels? The idea of a pigoon is terrifying.
