E.L. is my favorite one of his so far. Granted I haven't read that many, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat.

Laura | 149 comments I've just started Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. I'm looking forward to reading this book as it's also on the Guardian Top 100 books of all time and Achebe won the International Booker Prize. This will be my first book by Achebe.

Alecksa Pride and prejudice after putting it off for years and years thinking I would hate it. I've never been so wrong. It's so witty. So charming. So fun. Never judge a book by a Kiera knightley movie.

Kayla Tocco (kaylatocco) | 107 comments Yay Alecksa! I just finished a week ago and LOVED it! So glad you are enjoying it!

As for Casino Royale it's a really good book! I love Bond films and all of Fleming's bond books but Casino Royale has to be the best- it's so cool :)

Thanks for the tip Mekki. I do a majority of my "reading" via audiobook, so I love finding new sources to feed my addiction. :)

I hope you'll like him this time. Ian McEwan is absolutely my favorite contemporary author, but unfortunately I think he's got a voice and a style that are unmistakably his, which you can feel in every one of his novels, and I usually find that people either love him or hate him altogether. Just out of curiosity, which of his books have you already read?

I've just started Tess of the d'Urbervilles. I'd always put off reading this one because unfortunately one of my friends had seen the BBC miniseries and spoiled me the end, but I hope it won't matter and that I'll enjoy it all the same.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I'm reading Billy Bathgate. E.L. Doctorow is so good.

Tess is on my list to get to this year. Can't wait to see how you like it. I haven't seen the miniseries so that's good. :-)

message 538: by Yolanda (last edited Mar 06, 2014 04:26PM) (new)

Yolanda | 3 comments Melissa, I've read it a couple of years ago and I hated it. I couldn't see why everybody loved it so much, so it left me the feeling that I wasn't understanding something. Now, I'm happy of not being the only one feeling that way.

I've just started Love in the time of cholera. It was a bit slow at the begining, but I'm liking it so far.

message 539: by Luke (new)

Luke (korrick) CitR is one of the few books that I read for school and hated. I'm planning on rereading it, but there are other books to get through first. Half the compiled 1001 list seems a decent amount.

Oooh it's been so long since I read that. My literature teacher in High School was a committed anti-clericalist and anti-catholic, so she made us read that book. I remember it to be a painful read, but the discussion that followed was extremely interesting. Of course the basic theme is thought provoking and it was very forward thinking for the times!

I read this book last year, and I really enjoyed it despite the subject matter. Nabokov has such a way with words.
