Dan Hamilton (danhamilton) hi. I'm just curious: for those of you with e ink and tablet kindles (you own both), whats your estimate on percentage reading non-periodical materials on each?

mine:
e ink: 100 percent
kindle fire HD: 0 percent

why: battery life, easier to read long periods on e ink, no distractions (that inevitable pull of silk and other apps)

comments: I've resolved never to even utilize Whispersync on my kfhd, iPhone or iPad. e ink only.

would love to hear others.

Bill Paugh | 8 comments I read about half on the Paperwhite and half in the Fire HD. I do this because of immersion reading and Whispersync. GoodReads is the only app I utilize on the HD.

I have no periodical subscriptions on my Kindles but do occasionally look at magazines I get on Zinio but I find that I much prefer paper periodicals.

Reading is done almost solely on my Kindle Touch. Yesterday I used my Basic only because I had read so much in past days that the Touch needed a charge. About 2% of the time I read on my Fire HD. Sometimes it just seems to be in the right room and saves steps. I just put a Kobo app on it, thanks to Len's directions, and have a couple free books and a couple discounted so I read it on the HD because I don't have a Kobo but wanted to try the platform and the Kobo app on my smartphone is only a fall back.

Ann Schwader (annkschwader) | 35 comments I read maybe 25% of my books on my Kindle Fire HD, the rest mostly or solely on my Kindle 2. The Fire is easier to borrow library e-books on, & a better choice for some nonfiction with photos or family trees involved. I also read many PDFs on my Fire. Agree completely about fewer distractions on the Kindle 2!

Great question, Dan. I read about half of the time on my Kindle Fire HD 7" and half on my Paperwhite. I prefer the Fire indoors during the day and the PW outside our at night. I like how the Fire enables quick checks on the web and Wikipedia and time outs from reading to check Goodreads!

towner77 | 4 comments Hi All,

Just ordered a new Paperwhite WiFi from Amazon, which is set for delivery tomorrow. Now, word is out that they're out of stock. I've had a Kindle Keyboard for almost two years, which I love, but my daughter wanted to start reading on Kindle so I promised her the Keyboard and opted to upgrade to Paperwhite.

My question is, if Amazon refreshes the Paperwhite do I have options to exchange to the newer model, or should I return the Paperwhite unopened and wait a few weeks to make a purchase? What are you all hearing about Amazon's plans?

Thanks for your time and enjoy your day !!

Loren | 22 comments 75% Paperwhite
20% Ipad
5% Iphone

Loy | 5 comments If I remember right there is a 30 day grace period-- they will exchange for the newer model

Tom Semple (tom_semple) | 98 comments There's a 30 day return window but of course there is no guarantee that 1) there will be a new Paperwhite to exchange for in that time period 2) the features will be much different.

I'd keep it for a couple of weeks and see if there is new information by then. I have not seen any solid rumors on what the new models will offer.

Kevin Parsons | 5 comments Overall, i read about 66% digital and 33% DTBs. I read more DTBs this time of year because my wife is a librarian and gets a lot of ARCs and new releases at her yearly conferences.

When reading electronically, I read about 85% on my Paperwhite and 15% on my iPhone. We have tablets but I only read magazines and internet articles on them. The iPhone is simply convenient for those times I don't have my Kindle and have a few minutes free to read.

Andie Murray (a7dk) | 1 comments I read non-periodicals almost exclusively on my Paperwhite. The exception is that if I'm somehow in a place with time to read without my kindle I will read on my iPhone. This is usually like a few minutes while standing in line or something like that. I use my Fire HD for reading magazines & playing games mostly. I almost never read books on it bc it's heavier & requires more battery than my Paperwhite.
