Our Book of the Month for August is:

WRITTEN IN RED by Anne Bishop

Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop

Please read and discuss below

Lauren Finished in one weekend. I'm not sure why but this book was like fluffy crack to me. Just adorable. Loved that this book was long so it actually lasted almost all of my vacation weekend. The book is overall a huge cliche, but that's what fluff is supposed to be. The Others hate us and one little special human convinces them that maybe we don't completely suck. Just the right characters at the right time come together. You have been warned about the fluff but here's the good news, it also means there's going to be a happy ending and that's what I read books for. I can definitely see where people will either love or hate this. I don't see much room in the middle for "meh".

Ramplo | 6 comments Ditto! As soon as I saw "fluffy crack" I was sold! I accidentally typed fluffy crack into the search bar the first time...oops. Unfortunately neither of my libraries has it available online so I have to wait until I move back to the states to read it, luckily that's only a few weeks away!

Nikki (withererose) I'm almost halfway through it. I'm really enjoying it but have been too busy having fun with friends to read (sometimes I feel like ditching social life to read lol). But I plan to spend 2 hours reading tonight and hopefully finish it. I really want to know what happens as well as I have so many books I got from the library I need to read before school starts next week >.< but I'm hoping this books keeps getting better and better as it has so far. Love it!!!!

Nikki (withererose) So I didn't get to finish it as intended the other day but only have 12 pages left (it was hard to return from my break at work without finishing it lol) and will finish it on my lunch. I can definitely agree this is "fluffy crack" and will definitely be reading the rest of the series :D

R. Scott VanKirk (svankirk) | 3 comments "Fluffy crack" is a great way to describe this. The hero Meg is just a breath of fresh air. Lousy past, but nice, friendly, sympathetic. No dark angst, self loathing, etc.

I really had a problem with the world. I had a tough time imagining a human civilization growing to mimic our own in such a terrifyingly hostile place, but I was able to swallow, my disbelief because I enjoyed Meg and the fascinating glimpses of the Others.

In case it wasn't clear, I enjoyed this thoroughly.

Stephanee | 40 comments I REALLY like this!!!! It was only 5% in and telling others to read this one. I haven't had a book like that in awhile. So glad it was chosen for this months book!

Heather (fun-sizelibrarian) It has been a really long time since a book kept me up so late reading - I absolutely agree with "fluffy crack!" I finished this one in two days because I simply couldn't stop reading. It may be fluffy, but it's really well written, and I'll be checking out more of Bishop's work in the future.

That's exactly how I was and I definitely will be reading more and checking out her work because I love her writing style.

Terry Selvera | 5 comments I really enjoyed the story. Took me only a single weekend to finish it. Meg's character was refreshing to me. She has so much room to grow and did a lot of it in just this first book. I loved how she was able to make special connections with some of the characters. It made her seem like such a special person and I really enjoyed it. I'll be following this series for sure.

I didn't get the chance to read this one, but if it was like anything else I've read from Anne Bishop then I assume it was nothing less than fantastic. I'm a huge fan of her Black Jewels books, and would highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys her other work, or the dark fantasy genre.
