Shelby, hope you're feeling better soon! I've been plagued with headaches, broken sleep and my back is absolutely killing me this morning. This entire week has done nothing but suck. Mind you, I got a lot read, LOL!

Thanks, Kathleen!

Whew! Sorry I haven't checked in in a while. The past month has been a nightmare, and I won't have a moment to myself for about another month. A friends' wedding this past Saturday, another in two weeks, my brother's wedding on October 10th... dentist appointments for both of my kids, pediatrician for my son, and a bathroom that has been torn apart has kept me so freaking busy! I didn't even read half a book since Friday night! Horror! LOL!

message 106: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Hi Everyone,

I have been so busy. I am running for City Council here in West Haven. We are a team of about 10 people, who are running for various posts from mayor on down. I have been helping out alot because the campagine manager is AWOL. I thought this would be a simple thing, all I had to do was go door-to-door asking people to come out and vote for me. Simple right? LOL I am hosting fundraisers, getting the headquaters up and ready, making phone calls every night and just being a cheerleader to get the rest of the team motovated. I am so tired I could fall asleep right here.

I am also chairman of the Savin Rock Fireworks Committee. For those of you who don't know I will tell you the story of how I became chairman.

My 8 year old Ray, became a fullfledge member last year with voting rights. He has come with me to meetings for the past 2 years and he also raised about $1,000 by himslef last year.

When the former chairman asked if there were any nomations for chairman this year. Ray, who has never said anything at a meeting expect "I'm bored and tired when can we go home?" stood up and said "I think my mom would make a good chairman!" Before I could even get my jaw off the ground, it was seconded and everyone was clapping.

Reading has been my only escape for these past few months. I am just glad that I have you for friends, so I can escape when things get tuff.

That is all for now I hope I did not write too much :)

We are people who like to read so how could you write too much? The more people post, the more for us to read.

Anywho, as I understand, most campaigns are exhausting, but mercifully short. Keep us posted as things develop. Good luck in the election.

Oh, lordy, I'm bushed! I've had a headache since yesterday afternoon that plagued me all night and all day today. My kids had dentist appointments this afternoon and now I'm stuck with two cranky kids. My tub is finally fixed, so now I have to clean it and put the shower curtain back up before the kids can have their showers, and I feel like I'm going to fall asleep standing up! Ugh.

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Ok, so I have to stop giving out my home number. Last night I received a call from Joel. Joel wants to help with the election and wants to join the town committee in January. That sounds all good right?

Joel is 64 years old and I have no clue how he got on the topic, but before I knew what was happening he was telling my about his urologist appointment. Because I am a nice person I listened, but I think this went above and beyond. Like a radio station I need someone to screen my calls. ;) LOL

message 116: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
Yeah, no doubt, LOL! Because my parents own their own business, my mom wishes they'd had their home phone unlisted years ago. People call with vehicle trouble, even on Sundays. Drives her crazy! The way she sees it, she and my dad deserve a day to themselves as well. That's why they no longer stay home on Sundays.

message 117: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Curtis I hate it when people over-share their personal lives, I don't mind hearing about a lot of things..especially from people I know or am acquainted with but there has to be a line somewhere. Why would you talk to basically a stranger about your Doctor appointments? Crazy!

message 121: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Joel called me last night to find out when he could volunteer at headquaters and what time and tempature he should use to cook a steak. LOL At least it is not a doctors appointment.

message 122: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
LOL, I wonder if he even remembers talking to you about it? ;)

Holy smokes. I can't wait for my brother's wedding to be over on Saturday. Hell, I'm not the bride and I'm going nuts! I'm not even the matron of honor! Her sister is being her usual self: hasn't helped Shannon one stitch, and I've been asked to make the speech, as her sister is refusing. I've already warned Shannon: her sister oversteps her bounds and I will put her in her place. Hey, she had her wedding in August, she was pregnant a month before. Fine. But this is Shannon's day, and I'll be damned if Lindsay brings Shannon down with her miserable attitude! Whew! Had to get that off my chest, LMAO!

Okay, in so saying: if it happens that you see me disappear, don't fret. The surprise mini-bachelorette party is tomorrow (Wednesday) night, our all-girls sleepover is Friday night as well as the rehearsal. The wedding is Saturday. The gift opening is going to be an informal get-together at her mom's on Sunday. And Monday for us Canadians is Monday. Now, can someone tell me when I'm supposed to breathe in between there somewhere?

message 123: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Gina, please tell me how was the wedding?

message 124: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
Terrific, Colleen, thank you for asking! Let's see, there was only a few little kinks: the photog was a jerk and became very snarky when he didn't get what he wanted. He managed to make Shannon cry. I came this close to decking him. The hall ended up double-booked. The hotel claimed they had a computer glitch and booked a furniture auction from 11am to 3pm. They promised the hall would be ready by 8pm, which was the reception and if it wasn't, the guests would be brought to the spare dining room for drinks (on the hosue) until the hall was ready. Plus, they gave Shannon and Jason the newly refurbished honeymoon suite for free as compensation. When we got there, the hall was pretty much ready, but the wedding cake was missing. It took the hotel 30 minutes to find and set up the cake. But other than that, the ceremony was perfect, the music fantastic and I danced my butt off all night!

message 125: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Gina, it sounds like you had a good time. I feel bad for Shannon, it sounds like the photog. should not be working with people. I hope she does not have to pay him full price.

message 126: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
Problem with that: The bugger was paid in full before the wedding. Jason plans on having a huge talk with him when they get back, and the photog already knows about 'the talk'. The week before the wedding, they were supposed to get together on Sunday to do a prelim: places to take pics, who would be where, that sort of thing. Well, they called 5 or 6 times, left messages each time, and the photog called them back - on Thursday, 2 days before the wedding. There was a couple of other things as well, that was in the contract, that the photog broke, so they are expecting either some of the pics/portraits for free, or they'll demand some of their money back. If they get neither, they're taking him to small claims court. Both of them, plus us (the families) are unhappy with this idiot, and Jason regrets hiring him in the first place.

message 127: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments I hope everything works out. Make sure you tell everyone how bad the photographer was. Word of mouth is the best or the worst advertising.

message 128: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
Oh, the chain's already started, LOL! Those pics better be nice, that's all I can say. We had a family pick done as well - I want a portrait hanging on my wall, so it better be good, LMAO!

message 129: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments We just had a similar problem with a photographer here at the church. Not only did she show up stoned for the Revival, but she made it a point to tell us that she does not normally do events like ours. She is very homophobic. The name of the event was "The Radically Inclusive Revival Open to All! I can understand if you don't like the lifestyle of some of my parishioners, but why tell them to their face?

She then put her trademark on all the pictures she took, (Did I tell you she was 1 hour late on Friday night and 1 hour late on Saturday afternoon?)but told us if we wanted to "use" the pictures it would be an extra $150.00.

Does anyone take pride in their work any more?

message 130: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Burket (kathleengigicompany) | 20125 comments Mod
Definitely tacky.

message 131: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
Boy, tacky doesn't even come close! What is it with lousy photogs this month? Ugh! I'm sorry she was so awful, Colleen. You all didn't deserve that. Did you sign a contract?

message 132: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments No we did not thank God. She is getting a long and not so nice letter from Rev. John.

message 133: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 3325 comments Mod
Good. She deserves to get blasted for her behavior. "She doesn't approve of that lifestyle?" Oh, and people are supposed to approve of her showing up stoned? D'uh.

As for not signing a contract, that's good and bad. She couldn't have come after you if you had refused to pay her for her lousy services, but on the other hand, she arrived an hour late, both days. That's breaking a contract and could be taken to court - if it would have come to that. Sometimes it's just really hard to know just what to do.

I will say, though, that most photogs are highered by word-of-mouth. I'd definitely spread around how lousy she is. Then maybe she'll find another line of work instead.

Just FYI:

With 2010 around the corner, I started cleaning up a little in an effort to get ready for the new year. All the 2009 Books of the Month threads are now moved to our 'Archives' folder, with links on the Books of the Month listing thread.

Same with the Authors of the Month. The threads were moved to our 'Archives' folder, and links were posted on the Listing thread.

All the threads, even though they've been moved to the Archives, they are still open to new comments.

Thank you!

Colleen, update? How'd it go?

message 141: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 1537 comments Hi All,

Well, I did not win, but that is ok, because now I can spend some time on me. LOL If only I can figure out how to do that?

In West Haven where I live there is something like 20,000 regestered Democrats and about 3,000 registered Republicans. The whole day people kept asking me why I stay a Republican, I was told if I changed sides I would get elected right away.

I have given this a lot of thought. The Democrats have been in power in West Haven for about 20 years. People who work for the city are afarid that if they vote for a Republican they will loose their job. I can understand that, however I believe there must be a 2 party system for the system to work correctly.

I don't believe in all the Republican ideals but then again I don't believe in all the Democrate ideals. My goal was to get some of the people to vote for the person not the party. I did achieve that, I managed to get more than double the amount of people to vote for me this time. In 2011 I hope to get even more.

The most disappointing thing was that less than 40% of the registered voters came out to vote. How many peopel die each day all over the world because they don't have the right to vote?

Wow, I am sorry, I will get off my soapbox now. How was the weekend for everyone else?

Found out a co-worker died unexpectedly this weekend. She was in the second circle of people with whom I work routinely. Not in the inner circle, but someone with whom I interact most weeks. Knew she was going to the doctor in recent weeks for problems with her liver. She died of massive kidney and liver failure. It was a shock to everyone at work.
