Claire (onmythroneofbookss) That's awesome! The one near my home is small but the one a couple miles down the road is HUGE. I mean it has 3 floors! And it's so pretty inside.

message 52: by Sharlene (new)

Sharlene (sharlenehuriwai) | 148 comments I am a member of HB Williams Memorial Library which is like 15 minutes walk from my house. Gisborne is pretty small though. It's like 10 minutes drive from one end of our town to the other!

There is a limit of 30 books. 3 week loan period with the option of renewal for another 3 weeks. There are some books that cost $1-2 but they have a good range of free fiction & YA/Teen/Children genre all free.

This library also offers free Wi-fi and artwork for hire of $5 for 3 months. They have a children's book club & a sing song group for preschoolers.

Um, yes - way more than 2! We have a whole section at my library for YA, like I said, I'm so blessed. And they order what ever I request without bugging me. I like to feel that I'm helping the teen population of my town, LOLOLOL!

message 54: by Sophia (new)

Sophia Sacal | 24 comments Our library here doesn't have much YA books but if we like we can order them for the United States and they'll be here in about a month. Which is a lot of time for me.

Do you like Hot Chocolate or Tea? They usually have those too.... LOL.

@Adam, talk to the person in charge of ordering books and see what they need from you to start increasing their catalog. My library has a "request to order" form on line... Never hurts to ask!

Like Becky said, you should request books for order. My library has a form you can fill out and they really do order the books you ask them to.

message 67: by Alec (new)

Alec The library I used to live buy was /amazing/! It was the biggest in our county, but the one I'm close to now kind of stinks. But It is connected to the whole counties system, so i just request 10 books online a week. (the limit) and exchange them once a week when they all get here.

message 68: by Jojobean (last edited Sep 04, 2013 05:28PM) (new)

Jojobean | 553 comments The library I go to often is the Queens Library Fresh Meadows branch. Its kind of a small library but inside is a wealth of books.

For the queens libraries you can take out up to 50 books at any time. You keep them for 3 weeks and can renew them 3 times unless there is a request on the book.

I love the queens library because you can request any book you want regardless if its a hardcover or softcover through the website and have them delivered to your branch. The library will notify you that your requests are in by email and will also tell you how long they will hold the book for you. The you can go pick it up at your leisure.

On the site you can renew your books online as well as pay any fees you owe for overdue books. The site will also notify you by email, telling you that your book is due soon. It emails you a few days before the due date so that you have enough time to get on the computer and renew it. If for some reason you can't renew the book the site will tell you that the book is a "nonrenewable item".

Its awesome! And especially more so for me becuause my mom is a librarian cataloger in the main branch in Jamaica and she can get me any book I want and put it on her card where she can keep it for a long time. She used to do that with my books for my college classes and I was able to keep them for a semester!

message 69: by Bailey (new)

Bailey I actually just moved so I haven't explored much at my new library. I Have only been there twice so far and the first was to get my card and the second time I went straight to the desk to get my book because they were holding it for me. Hopefully sometimes by the end of the month I will have some time to go look around!

message 70: by Kassi (new)

Kassi | 41 comments 3 week limit. The down stairs section is all non-fiction, adult and childrens. The upstairs is like a whole other world!! It's all YA and magazines as far as the eye can see. No one ever goes up there either! :)

Although we have a 15 cent fee for each day late, which adds up quickly if you get busy :/

message 71: by Bailey (new)

Bailey Oh I have now been to my library multiple times since I posted. They don't have much of a selection but I just love the feeling of reading at the library and they do have a few great reading corners!

message 72: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (cosytomelibrary) I haven't been to my local library for a couple years, but I do know one thing, when I was 10-11 we went to the library to read and I finished the child and young adult section. It's kind of small. :(

Our school library is okay since they're getting new books all the time and good ones!

message 73: by Liv (new)

Liv Nielsen | 1 comments Compared to libaries in the usa, mine is small, but for one in denmark, it is quite good ;D
It is very mordern, you have to beep your books and all that, and you return them it is through a machin, that puts them in the right catergory. It works really well. They have a lot of Danish children books, and adult books, but they dont have a lot of books for my age (teenager)
And they barely have any english books for young folks. So usually when I want to read an english book I have to order it on Amazon.
But all in all it is an okay libary.

There is a 3 week limit, and no book limit- I would die if there were!!

message 74: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (flyingmonkey22) | 38 comments what oh man my library has a 10 book limit, which is really annoying because I can get through a lot.

message 75: by Gabs (last edited Oct 24, 2013 07:53AM) (new)

Gabs HEAVEN!

That is what my library is like. :) the librarians know us because we go there so often, and there's a really high book limit. Plus my library card works for like fifteen different libraries because they're connected, so i can get books in a ton of different places!

message 76: by Alison (new)

Alison (alisonrichelle) My library is horrible! They never have any new books until about 6 months to a year after it comes out. Book limit is 5 and you get to keep them for only 2 weeks. It's run down and people just go there to use the computers. That leaves me creating my own library at home. :)

message 77: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (flyingmonkey22) | 38 comments Alison wrote: "My library is horrible! They never have any new books until about 6 months to a year after it comes out. Book limit is 5 and you get to keep them for only 2 weeks. It's run down and people just go ..."

Know that feeling my library is a bit like that, use to be really good they then moved it to a college now its half the size with not very good books. And the books that are good are hard to get in plus we have that stupid book limit too. Also never really get any peace in the library due to people not really wanting to read in there just on the computers which is really irritating.
So I feel your pain I too have my own mini library at home :)

message 78: by Mara (new)

Mara (maraanne) There's two local libraries near me; one is rather small and doesn't have a very good YA selection, but it's a pleasant place, so sometimes I pop in for the fun of it. The other one is bigger, was actually founded by Carnegie, and has a great YA collection. You can check out 50 books at once, put 25 on hold, renew twice, and keep books out for 3 weeks. It's heaven. :)

message 79: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Knittle | 48 comments There is a 30 book limit including music and dvd's. You check them out I think for three weeks but have the option to renew the due date. The library is okay, most of the time I put books on hold in order to get anything I really want to read. I love the library best thing ever.

message 80: by Kristel (new)

Kristel (kristelrose) | 33 comments At the library in my town I can keep the books for 28 days, not sure how many books though.
The variety is quite wide, but since I live in Sweden, it can take some time for them to get the new releases in english.

Oh wow! That's a ton of books! LOL My most recent find is the San Francisco Public Library that is 6 stories tall! SIX FLOORS! I'll never make it off the first floor. LOL The books are loaned for 3 weeks and I think (if I remember correctly) I can keep them for 3 weeks but can recheck them out 4 times.

message 83: by Brian (new)

Brian | 13 comments I used to frequent the library by my old job. They were great, and were located in Stoughton, MA. They had a HUGE collection of books for sale for 25 cents, and I used to buy all that I could get my hands on. They sold five books for a dollar. It was awesome.

When I checked out books, it would allow you to renew three times! So I could essentially read and reread a book for up to 6 weeks!

I have to get to my local library and see if it is anywhere near as awesome as the Stoughton Library was/is. Sadly, it's an hour from my house, so I have no reason to go there anymore. :(

message 84: by Sandy (new)

Sandy We have two new libraries as we had the 2008 floods here in Iowa. Our new main library is amazing! It is like a media center. It has walking treadmills with computers and a ledge so you can read or work on a computer as you walk. The children's section has a little theatre for the kids and bookshelves they can climb through. The youth section has two rooms - one for gaming and one for studying. The chairs/couches for the youth area are comfy and inviting. There is a coffee shop inside the library. Outside area for seating and the whole roof is design for reading and hosting events. There's lots of rooms and a theatre room, if you need one. All the books and the movies were new when the library opened this summer, it was totally amazing. The library has been showcased in many magazines.
Our other library is smaller but it was all new also. A lot of space, modern design and lots of new material.
When the flood came through our town, the library was in its path. It was so sad to see everything ruined but now, it's nice to have two great libraries.

~Akweley♡Mazarae♥~★☆★oblivion★☆★~I CAN'T BREATHE~ (nala13) | 781 comments I used to LOVE my library,I was over there all the time, and since it was right across the street from my Dad's job, it was convenient. I was always a little antisocial as a kid, and was always reading, so it didn't bother me that he was always dumping me and my sisters at the library.
So anyway, I got to know my librarians really well, and whenever I want a book, usually if I drop a couple of hints, one of them will probably get it for me and I'll be the first to read it(though I usually feel really bad about doing that, and rarely ever do that. My sister has no such qualms).
It's really small, compared to some I've seen, and it doesn't have a great selection of books. Which is why I sometimes get frustrated, especially when I have to wait months after the books come out to read it, even when I do order it from another library in the system. And recently they renovated the teen section, which I don't really like because its really crowded. The children's section is bigger than the teen section.
But I still love it though, probably because I've been going there since I was 5.

message 86: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Winters My library is awesome! It has 3 floors and a HUGE YA section.

message 87: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (TOMS_A_TREKKIE) | 10 comments My library is great. It's part of a big group of libraries so that if it does not have a book that you want they will order it for you from another library. Your allowed to borrow 30 books and reserve 15, they give you a month to read them but you can renew them and have them for 2 months.

message 88: by Edward (new)

Edward L. (edwardlcote) | 24 comments We're building a new building though in retrospect I don't see why it can't just stay in its temporary home, an old Borders, which seems to be working well. Surely it would have been cheaper to just buy that.

The only thing I don't like is that they have computers for kids to play Counter Strike etc. I just don't feel like that's appropriate.

message 89: by Cherry (last edited Dec 12, 2013 11:55AM) (new)

Cherry | 60 comments I love my new library. My old one was really rural, and though it was nice, it was also hit or miss.

My new one is near an urban area, and there must be a dozen branches that feed into the network. So my local branch might not have the book I want, but I just put a hold on it and then a day or two later they drive it over for me from a different branch. Love it!

You can also check out up to 100 books... though I can't imagine ever getting near that limit!

message 90: by Monique (new)

Monique (mohneek) I used to go to the library a lot, but I read all of the good books. And they don't really buy new books very often. So it kind of sucks. And the library at my school is even worse. I'm in high school, yet the books are for middle school ages. Or they're fifty years old. Nothing against them, but I like new releases.

message 91: by cindy ♡ (new)

cindy ♡ | 245 comments I like my library. It's overall really nice. It doesn't carry ALL of the books I would like it to, but it's good :) I don't usually go to my school library since it's pretty limited.

message 92: by Dezra (new)

Dezra Bennett (dezra_bennett) | 652 comments Libraries are the first places I go to when I move to a new county.
The Miami County Library is on the small side, but has a decent selection of YA books.

I think you can only get up to 25 books. (unlike in LaGrange County where you could get 100)
You get the books for 3 week except for the 14 day books they have that you can check out.

message 93: by ♥Jessica, (new)

♥Jessica, ♥Lady of the Library♥ I don't like my public library very much. It doesn't restock it's YA books very often, and all that's there is very old stuff that I've already read or just not interested in.
At my school library, the librarian is obsessed with getting kids to read so she constantly restocks the YA books..makes me really happy. xD

message 94: by [deleted user] (new)

I love my library.
Its been getting really good lately. 5-6 years ago it wasent that good. but they have remodeld lately and gotten better books, so now I love it.
and you can order books from libraries around the country too and get them at the local one.
books from my local library, one month. books from other library 3 weeks.
I use my library all the time.currently I have 3 books from the library but waiting on 10.and no,no limit on how many you can borrow.

message 95: by Karen (new)

Karen (klmelon) | 6 comments The library in my town used to have loads of books. I used to spend all my time there reading books. It was really unfortunate for us when the previous librarian left and the new librarians don't know anything about books. So, all of the good books are now gone :(
There's a two week limit but then the limit can be extended to half a year.

message 96: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1726 comments I'm addicted to my library :P It's huge and new and has a billion books :) Plus, the system won library of the year last year :D You can check out 50 books at once (once my whole family shared my card, so...)for three weeks at a time (two months max)and I haven't reached the hold limit yet.

message 97: by Joi (new)

Joi | 989 comments When I'm home, I love my local library. They have a large variety, but it seems like when I'm looking for a particular book...they don't have it. But when they don't have it, I can put a hold on it and they'll get it from another library in the same county and they send it to the one closest to me.

message 98: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin (caitlinvautour) i love my library not limit on how many books i can take out. i think i would cry if i had a limit.

message 99: by Mandiann (new)

Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 6882 comments I used to only borrow ebooks and audiobooks through the online portion of my audiobook but recently needed to visit one of my local libraries for a certain book that had a huge ebook waiting list.

Of course now I am addicted and brought home 11 books. There is no limit to the physical books I can borrow and I can borrow them for 3 weeks.

Ebooks and audiobooks have a limit of 10, for two weeks.

The local libraries are great about sending copies to other branches to make getting my books more convenient.
