Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 6882 comments Nice! I can only renew twice but I am not anticipating that being a problem.

message 102: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Siciliano (bethann4j) | 6 comments There's a lot of books at ours
There's no limit
And if you renew stuff then you can use it up to 3 weeks

And we have a Maine info net download library to borrow ebook And audiobooks

message 103: by Trinity (new)

Trinity That's so cool you don't have a limit, I'm pretty sure mine's is up to 10 but I never really asked.

message 104: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Siciliano (bethann4j) | 6 comments At our old library, we had to use like three cards because of the limit

message 105: by Jess (new)

Jess I've never asked mine if it has a limit, but the most I have ever checked out was 48. You can check out for 3 weeks. They also have ebook content that you can sign in with the library to check out, that has a 5 limit and a 5 hold limit.

message 106: by [deleted user] (new)

Now my library can only check out 30 books out.

message 107: by Raven (new)

Raven (missy_aurora) | 57 comments My home library is pretty small only two week checkout for up to 10 books and 4 DVD's and CD's. I can renew four times though. What I like about my library is that I can get one library card and then visit like 50 different libraries and use the same card for the region of the state I live in. So in a sense I can get hundreds of books and have them for up to a month and return any of those books to any of the libraries.

message 108: by Chantae (new)

Chantae B. | 114 comments i live in a fairly small town and I've only lived here 4 a year and I have been to the library a few times. there are to levels (I guess thats what you would call them) the bottom.one.is.for computer and studying. the main level has all the books. they have a teen section that is for teens only. (other people are welcomed to get books from that section but I think that only teens are aloud to use the computers and hangout there. they have a kids section right next to the teens. and then outside of those parts are where all the adult books, biographys, movies, cds, etc. are. there is a quit a bit of choices and I don't know how many books you can check out at once but you can only keep them for 2 weeks

message 109: by Shea (new)

Shea (nerdyhpfan) | 11 comments I love my library! It's in a historic building with a section for each age group, children's, adults, circulars are on the bottom floor as well as the circulation desk.
Upstairs is my favorite. It's where the young adult books are! They have a whole room set aside for us with window seats scattered around the room. The books are in the shelves a around the perimeter of the room. Then next to the YA room is just a study area with TONS of reference material. Then there's the computer room with about 10 ancient computers and then the main area has all the non-fiction books.
I love how they kept the historical feel in there. And I love the smell! Smells like book pages!!!! The only boring part is the library cards. They're just yellow plastic cards. They don't even have a picture on them! Glotta update that!
It's my home away from home and I love it!!

message 110: by Molly (new)

Molly (mollymeaker) My library is a historical Carnegie library.

It's small and beautiful but it's crumbling in structure. and we're not the richest town so it's not going to be fixed soon.

The downstairs is creepy old, and mostly for storage and archives etc... I used to explore down their with my little brother.

We have a limit of 3 weeks on books. there are three computers and our latest addition is a laptop (we're so tech-savvy: Hahaha-no).

The majority of users would be the homeschool families and the grandparents.

and that's my library! ;)

message 111: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Stengel (bookworm_77) | 117 comments to be honest I havent been to the library in a long time because it would cost me a fair amount to join the biggest library closest to me (Barrie). so most of my books I order online from chapters/indigo or purchase them in the store. or get online books for my kindle. but once I move to barrie (if I do) I will get a library membership

message 112: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Stengel (bookworm_77) | 117 comments I would rather own the hard copy of books or have it on my kindle than borrow books from a library

message 113: by Tamanna (last edited Apr 19, 2014 12:22AM) (new)

Tamanna (tamaska) Ok, i live in India, and here we dont have many good libraries. So, the only library i that is near where i live is basically a largish room with a few books. but you can get the books that you want to read delivered from other branches around the city, using the website.

But i love libraries, when I didnt live in India, there was a massive library in the town, and yah i love the smell of old books to, with the worn covers looking so well read,

message 114: by Margarita (new)

Margarita Morris I live near Oxford so I'm spoilt. Oxford Central library is a very large and well stocked for a public library. I can use my library card in all Oxfordshire libraries so if I'm in Abingdon (which is closer to where I live) I can pop in there. But I also have a reading card for the Bodleian Library which is the main library for Oxford University. You can't borrow books from the Bodleian - you have to read them in one of their reading rooms, but it's a copyright library so it has a copy of everything published in the UK!

message 115: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Lovegreen (lynn_lovegreen) We have a large library in the center of town that is well loved and used. It could use some renovation, more books and staff, but can't all of them?
My big concern is that we've whittled down the branch libraries so few people have one nearby. Not everyone can drive or take the bus to a big library, and it's sad that they're missing out.
The good thing is, it's free and you can take out books for 3 weeks at a time. And they're generous with renewals. Yay, libraries! :-)

message 117: by Maya (new)

message 118: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (sammylancaster) | 59 comments my library is barnes and nobles lol

message 119: by Tonya (new)

Tonya Powell | 22 comments I go to the library now. I use to buy books from Half Price Books and sometimes I still do. But mostly I just go to the library every three weeks and get quite a few books.

Anna (Unquenchable Reads) (unquenchablereads) | 249 comments I should probably go to the library more............ Oh well.

We have two libraries where I live. Both under the same company/owner. One downtown and one 20 minutes away from it. The one downtown is huge. We also have the Ebook/audiobook thing, but I don't use it much.

message 121: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (lunaluv934) Nonexistant..xD

message 122: by Tara (new)

Tara Jackson (tarajwrites) | 11 comments I have two library systems that I use. One has like, 18 branches I can reserve from. The other has 12 statewide. So usually if one system doesn't have something the other will. And if neither has it, I can pay $2 and they'll order it from the Library of Congress.
They both have a 30 book limit and a 3 week checkout time. Overdue fines are $0.20/day/item. I currently owe $0.20. I had an overdue item in February. :(

message 123: by Marie W. (new)

Marie W. (mariejarroush) | 9 comments my library is big its include shelves and many books.

message 124: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (caelestial) | 166 comments There are 2 libraries I go to because the one closest to me is so small I kind of want to cry each time I visit it. The one I like more is pretty big. I'm not sure about the book limit. There's a 3 week checkout time.

message 125: by [deleted user] (new)

My library is pretty large

2 week limit (unless I renew it)

25 hold limit

I get stacks and stacks of books almost every week.

And one thing I love is if there's a book I wanna read but they don't have it, I can just go up to the front desk and request for the book, and they'll buy it!

message 126: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 78 comments I love my library. It has a wide variety. I am not sure it there is a limit. I can hold them until three weeks. I can renew them twice. I can have as many holds as I want which I love.

message 127: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Evans | 132 comments I never go to the library in my town, but I work at the one in my school. Its mostly academic books honestly, but there is a small popular reading section. They are really good books too!

message 128: by [deleted user] (new)

My town library is super tiny. They have a YA section but I've pretty much read all the books I'm interested in there. They have a 2 week limit and a 6 book limit and 2 movie limit.

The one county library I go to where I am able to use my college library card at is big. It's 3 floors, YA has their own room. I love going there because they have a lot on my TBR list and they can also get books you request from one of the six other county libraries. They have a 3 week limit, 100 book limit and 15 movie limit. You can also renew the books on your online account which has come in handy.

message 129: by Annabelle (new)

Annabelle (tempestscorner) I have a really good library considering I live in a pretty small town and if they don't have the book you want you can get in brought in from one of the other district library's for free if your at school. You can keep books out for 3 weeks and i'm not sure what the limit is but its large as iv had up to 20 books out at once and havn't been stopped. The staff are really great too, all really friendly and helpful.

message 130: by J.R. (new)

J.R. Dawson | 12 comments Sadly, understocked.

message 131: by Molly (last edited Aug 08, 2014 05:52PM) (new)

Molly | 59 comments What is your library like? It's relatively small, because I live in a small town. The library shares books with other library's because they are in the same district. It's kind of annoying though, because all of the books I want to read are always at another library or on loan, so I have to wait FOREVER to get books! But it is good, because you can get them from other librarys for free. The staff are really friendly which is also good.

How long can you keep the books? The limit is 3 weeks, but you can renew them a few times...

Do you have a limit for how many books you can get? I think there is a limit, but I have no-idea what it is... I have never got more than six books at once. I usually go once a week after school when mum is working, so I dont really have to get too many books.

Is there a wide variety of books at your library? There is a fairly wide variety...

message 132: by Paulina (new)

Paulina (littledreammer) | 279 comments I don't have a library yet, but I know that soon I'll have one! I want that it be large and spacious.
In the meantime I use my bedside table to store some that I have.

message 133: by Alyson (new)

Alyson Stone (alysonserenastone) | 300 comments I have access to two libraries. The country one has a couple thousand and probably that many in ebooks, but it's my university one that is huge. It's like a maze, but most of the books are textbooks.

message 134: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) No checkout limits in Denmark, as far as I'm concerned. You can keep the books for one month.
Each bigger town has a "main"-library and then some smaller ones that "belongs" to the main one. Sort of. Hard to explain :P The nearest one to me is really small! So I usually go to the main library :) Their YA selection is quite disappointing, and so is their English selection. Apart from that, it's quite big :) The one where I used to live were better though, even though it was smaller! :)

message 135: by aeneegma (new)

aeneegma | 21 comments I'm ashamed to admit this but when you live in my city/country you're gonna get a "WHAT LIBRARY?" answer. The only place with lots of books are bookstores & private schools. Yeah, shameful. :(

message 136: by ★ℕłℂØℓҾ★ (Nix), snowflakes and eyelashes (new)

★ℕłℂØℓҾ★ (Nix) (ladyknightnix) | 4549 comments Someone mentioned their library was the historic Carnegie library, and, OMG! I was just there the other day for training! Interesting library :) and yes, certainly a bit old and creepy. But also wonderful and SO MUCH HISTORY ♥.

I work at a library north of there. It's the new (opened June 21, 2014) "21st Century Library", complete with separate teen area, large children's area, tons of study rooms and business meeting rooms, crafting areas with cool gadgets like 3D printers, 3D scanner, laser cutter, sewing machines, CNC machine, soldering irons, hot glue guns, etc., then there are also 2 gaming areas (1 for adults, 1 for teens), a theatre room that seats 400 people, audio and visual green screen recording room, audio and visual editing computers, and a cafe! Everything but the 3D printing and food/drinks from the cafe is FREE! (Paid for with taxpayers dollars.) It's shocking to me how many libraries cost money for individual book checkouts or memberships!

Now about the books. We can check out up to 100 books at a time for 3 weeks (2 renewals optional, barring holds on the item). 100 books can be on hold. 20 DVDs can be checked out at a time for 1 week checkout periods. We have lots of audiobook materials and these iPod-sized things called book players that are little devices with the book on them where you just plug in headphones and press play, all of which check out like regular books for 3 week periods. Children's even has the same kind of portable device things with pre-loaded children's videos!

There is an eBranch with eBooks and eAudiobooks that check out for 3 weeks with 1 renewal option through OverDrive. (Love this!)

We get all the newest popular books fairly soon after they're released in both the regular catalog and eBranch catalog. If the book you want isn't available, the Interlibrary Loan service is also completely free for any book we can get from another library within the United States and Canada, or you can request a new material (released within the past year) be purchased by the library, and they usually do. :) I've requested a handful of books, and the library purchased them all!

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Nicole, your library sounds SO COOL!

message 138: by Beth (new)

Beth (jasonverlander) | 1223 comments My library is AMAZING. Two floors, a great kids section, a great YA section, and a fantastic adult section. There is a whole wing of just large print books. They also lend out audiobooks, ebooks, and eAudiobooks. They have TONS of mange/comic books.

Three week limit with three renewals (unless the book is on hold for another patron) and I don't think there is a book limit.

We also have something called a "lending library" where if our library doesn't have a book, we can order it from another library and it gets sent to our library and we return it to our library and they ship it back to the other library.

I used to volunteer at the library because I love it so much but I got an actual job and don't have time for it anymore, but they still want me to come in from time to time to help out.

They also have huge book sales every three to four months. All books are $1 or below unless they are brand new hardcovers which are $4-$6 each. It's awesome. I love my library.

message 139: by ★ℕłℂØℓҾ★ (Nix), snowflakes and eyelashes (new)

★ℕłℂØℓҾ★ (Nix) (ladyknightnix) | 4549 comments I like the sound of your library too, Beth (Ducky)! It makes me sad that some libraries are not as wonderful in terms of book selection and services offered. I know a lot of times the financial aspect is what becomes detriment to the quality of the library. There are around 14 library branches included within my district, and some of the smaller branches are given less money to work with, unfortunately. But I've met a lot of people who work at those branches, and a better or more passionate group of people you would be hard-pressed to find! :)

message 140: by Belle (new)

Belle | 28 comments the library in the town I live in is terrible, but luckily the neighbouring town which is only like 5 minutes away has a really awesome (but fairly small library. it basically has complete popular series that I normally can't even get in our local book store examples; legend, matched, delirium, uglies, chaos walking trilogy, shiver, hush, hush, mortal instruments, infernal devices, bloodlines, the selection, and more, more books!

message 141: by Belle (new)

Belle | 28 comments and if it doesn't have the whole series it will have the first/s one and not like the sixth or third one and it has a one month time limit and you can re borrow as many times as you like.

message 142: by Sara (new)

Sara | 343 comments The library closest to me is quaint; it has two floors - upstairs is full of books, movies, and computers and downstairs is the kids section where they have tons of kids books and a cute little area for reads and on the other side there's a hall where they have book fair/sales and you can rent it out for parties. They also have a community pool behind. What's great is it's a part of a larger library so if they do not have something, they will order it from another within the library community and you can pick it up at the library of your choosing.

I've been going there since I was old enough to read. The librarian has known me since then too. They are the nicest people.

message 143: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashielizz) I'm ashamed to admit this but I haven't been to my library for a long time. I actually need to renew my library card.

From what I remember though there is no limit on books and you can check them out for one month and then renew them for two weeks at a time as long as there are no holds.

message 144: by [deleted user] (new)

my local library is huge and it's got tons of YA books. there is a 100 limit that you are allowed to check out and have on hold and you can keep the books for 3 weeks and as long as there are no other holds on that book you are allowed to renew it

message 145: by Amy (new)

Amy (thereisonlynothingness) | 264 comments My local library is actually pretty average (for a library), but AWFUL if you ask me personally, because it's really small! Too small!!! however, it is still by far my favourite place to be, so I do spend a lot of time there, reading, on the big comfy chairs XD ; )

message 146: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) What is your library like? How long can you keep the books? Do you have a limit for how many books you get? Is there a wide variety of books at your library?

Well I guess I depends on which one you're talking about. I have 6 libraries in my town. Only one is fairly large. Even then it's only three stories, not huge by most standards.

I believe most of the libraries have at least a thirty book limit. Probably more. I don't really remember.

I think we get 4 weeks?

Yes and No. For the size we have a good variety and they are willing to order and move books for you. But it's not a HUGE selection. Just standard.

message 147: by [deleted user] (new)

My local library was just renovated.
They moved buildings, and the new place is much bigger than the old one. It is three floors instead of 2, thers more sitting space, and all around better. Loving it. :D

message 148: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee (ineffablekay) I work at a library. It's 3 stories high but the only books are on the second floor. The first floor is all administration offices and stuff and the third floor used to have human resources and rooms for group studying but now only the rooms are still there. It's a very large building though so there's still a lot of room.

We technically don't have a limit on books but you can only have 100 items (including dvds, cds, ect) checked out at a time so if you have nothing else checked out, you can have 100 books out at a time.

It depends on how new the book is and the time of year but for the most part, books can be checked out for 4 weeks and can be renewed 2 times as long as no one else has a hold on them so you can have a book checked out for 3 months.

We have a pretty good variety I think. Especially in fiction and YA. We're always ordering new books and are always updating our collection. It does take a while for new books to be come though. We always take recommendations for new books to order as well.

message 149: by Ellie (new)

Ellie | 418 comments My library is fabulous. It won some award for public libraries, but it is huge and has a wall of windows, great lighting. I know a lot of people who go there after school for the computer or private study rooms. And I love love love the location. It is on the same road as my school, and nothing else (but its connected to a busy street, so not out in the middle of nowhere) Also, it is connected to three other libraries that are in town, and they share books.
I think I can have a limitless number of books checked out (but the most I've tried is 12), can have them checked out for three weeks, can renew them three times (or limitless times. I forget) unless someone else has a hold on it. I usually put the books on hold, and then pick them up within a couple days.
There may be a membership few when we first get our card, but nothing after. Unless we return our books late, then it is $0.25 per day.
I get ALL of my books from the library, unless it is an absolute favorite of mine.

message 150: by Jessica (new)

Jessica My library is pretty small I would say compared to other libraries. They only let you check out 15 things total.
