I know! I hate it too...
nothing quite takes the place of a pair of "additional expert eyes" editing, but does anyone know of any really good editing software out there for those starving authors? Lol?

message 166: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Blake | 3 comments Thanks for inviting me into this group. I'm really at the stage of just trying stuff. I've been lucky in that a short story I wrote is going to be included in an anthology. It's a Steampunk tale set in Bristol. The book is coming out in October, Airship Shape & Bristol Fashion.
Other than that I've a story in progress that combines fantasy and steampunk. It's slow going at the moment.
I'm just trying to hang out with Writer types to make me feel guilty about not writing enough. Hoping the guilt motivates me!

@Steve Congratz on getting a story published in an anthology! :3

The thing is to just not stop writing. Write down something every day, whether it's 1,500 words or a couple lines of notes. Keep the imagination going every day. :3

I never introduced myself in here. I'm Josh, and I'm working on a supernatural thriller (or horror--I'm not sure yet) called The Scarlet Ribbon. :3

message 169: by Ken (last edited Aug 29, 2013 01:06AM) (new)

Ken Mooney (kenmooney) @Steve, yeah, the guilt will work.

I think I've written more in this past week than I have in the last two months...

But *spits tobacco* 'round these parts, we call it inspiration, not guilt

Nice! :3 I'm actually meeting with a lady from the student services department. They need someone to write notes for a special needs student in my biology class, so I'm hoping I get the job. I get to use one of those Light Scribe pens. @w@

You could probably dodge my whole 24 pack. xP But I don't want to throw them because they were kind of expensive. lol

Speaking from my experience, I'm sure the girl greatly appreciates it. It's frustrating when your hands won't work as fast as you want them to.

@Loni Hello! That does sound exciting! Welcome aboard! :D

@Nadia. I understand that. I actually have a bone disorder where writing long hand can be very painful, but in england you just have to lump it. In my friends case, the girl isn't as appreciative as you might have thought.

message 187: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone! I'm Sandy and I write fantasy and horror. I started writing in French a while ago and in English a few months back.
Two weeks ago, I self-published my first novel on amazon :D it's fantasy, in French, called "La Quête de l'Equilibre"
I am now writing a horror/thriller short story in English. I'm just a chapter away from finishing it. It's about a witch who's been imprisoned and wants revenge. I think I might self-publish it maybe by January.
And I'm considering translating my first novel, so that you can all tell me how awesome it is :P
Anyway, thanks for having me in the group! You can check me out on twitter or Facebook if you like.

message 188: by Ann (new)

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Yay! :D I'm glad your considering translating it sandy I'm rubbish at learning new languages ;] So happy you joined :3 x

message 189: by Ken (new)

Ken Mooney (kenmooney) Bienvenue, Sandrine.

You should definitely translate, but keep the name. There's something beautiful and mysterious about the French title.

message 190: by Ann (new)

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Yes! I agree.

It made me think of John Preston (Equilibrium, second favourite movie ever) sitting in a muraled room eating croissants after he had just killed everyone :3

Sometimes I enjoy the original names of books than the translations.

For instance Män som hatar kvinnor (men who hate women), Girl with the Dragon tattoo. It doesnt work as well in english, but I feel it sounds more violent somehow when you say it in Swedish. Which fits the book better in my opinion :p

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
I agree :3

message 197: by [deleted user] (new)

Ken: I think I might translate the title, but I'll definitely keep the French names of places and heroes.

Carl: I agree! But it's a double-edged fact, because it makes it difficult to be original. I had a bit of trouble with that when I started.

message 198: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Sandrine why not have the title in English and French? So it would be: La Quête de l'Equilibre - Ghost, the quest for balance

message 199: by April (new)

April Hollingworth | 105 comments Or the other way around:
Ghost, the Quest for Balance - La Quête de l'Equilibre

message 200: by [deleted user] (new)

April: why not? I'll keep that in mind. :)
