A big commotion over nothing? Perhaps. I disagree entirely with any form of censorship. However, there are some details in the image that are a bit on the cruel side...the entire population of a city seeing a naked man pretty much being killed...

Kelli (dolphinie13) | 16 comments I think it's kind of a cool image, but I'm also a fan of Asterix. I think most people won't understand the reference, and therefore will judge this for something that it's not. This guy is known to us as the representation of the famous statue depicting a Greek discus thrower. Those who don't know who Asterix is, and who won't understand that the object in the man's hand is a discus will just think it's a little dude with a winged hat beating up a naked man.

I think there are other images of Asterix that are equally cool and will not cause unwarranted criticism for misunderstood representations.

Kelli (dolphinie13) | 16 comments I like Asterix's characteristic show of strength in the face of someone obviously bigger than him. I also like the characteristic doofy look on the "bad guy." The splayed hands, and the wonky eyes combine to make the Discus Thrower look pretty stupid. I mostly like the large lightningbolt "POW" featured in the middle of the piece. It's just so classic comics.

Savanes | 2107 comments I was wondering whether the animated film and movies were ever displayed on your part of the world. I so so so love "Asterix et les 12 travaux" (Asterix and the 12 tasks???).

About the image, I agree that there are equally cool images that would be more appropriate.

Savanes | 2107 comments I thought it was a typical "Asterix just drank his magic potion and is going to kick some roman butt". ;)
It surely fits a comic book storefront! I think it is not that violent. Asterix never actually killed anyone in the comics. Romans are just a bit shaked.

Sarah | 1467 comments Well I didn't know about this but since I actually live in Portland I would say I just think it is ugly and would prefer a nicer mural to look at, especially if it is a big display that many will see.

His toes spread apart and wiggling like that is cruel but hilarious as well!
