Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Now your ready to read the best of the vampire books. Carmilla as a long short story, or as a case file from In A Glass Darkly. Or just Google it up. There are about three online versions. It's depth and perception make other vampire storis with the exception of Dracula look weak. "She was slender, and wonderfully graceful. Except for her movements were languid-very languid-indeed, there was nothing in her appearance to indicate an invalid. Her complexion was rich and brilliant, her features were small and beautiffuly formed, her eyes large, dark, and lustrous, her hair was quite wonderful, I never saw hair so magnificently thick and long when it was down about her shoulders". If Laura had known the secret of Carmillas hair. Which lay soaking in a blood filled leaden lined casket in the early morning hours. She would have been horrified. Carmilla snuck out of her room around 10:00 pm. Secured a victim and by 1:00 or so lay sleeping in her tomb. She awakend at first light to wander back home to Lauras house and sleep in until noon. Then she would get up and start her daylight existance. This book is about the duality of human nature in this life, it's intermediaries, and the afterlife. It is no willy nilly punk ass vampire book not by a long shot. If you want to read lots of the other cool Gothic vampire storis check out Horrormasters.com They have Vampire, Werewolf, and Horror sections. Lots of H.P. Lovecraft The Color From Space. Its one bad ass site. Cheers, Cary

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Coolio for real. They have a cheaper version of "The Phantom World" at Amazon.com that is a paper back with fewer illustrations for $35 new. Or you can get a used copy like I just did for $10. Now I have the straight dope on Vampires & Revelants, The Magia Posthuma is in this book as well as other vampire cases from circa 1700 to 1850. Plus disertations on the habits of vampires. This was written by a guy who really was a believer in vampires and the gothic legends that surrouned them. It's sraight dope from the horses mouth. Also dont forget TrueBlood season 2 http://us.mg201.mail.yahoo.com/dc/lau...

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments I just finished the last of the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries AKA TrueBlood. Now I am ready for the last one Dead and Gone. I figured out now why I like these books so much better than any other series. Usually I only like old gothic vampire stories or the really great Vampypre works of literature like Carmilla & Dracula. Because the vampire story is just a vehicle for revealing a much more profound subject. Well in a way that is what Sookie Stories are like. They have Vampires and Werewolves, and other supernatural beings in a complex society. Which alone is interesting enough. But it wasn't until I finished Dead As A Door Nail that I figured out my real attraction. They are mysteries. All thorough the story Dead As A Door Nail you are thinking the mystery is about who is killing shape shifters in Bon Temps. But really it is a mystery within a mystery. Even with the mysterious murders of shape shifters, and Tara being kept hostage by the evil renegade vampire Mickey, and the big fight for pack leader of the werewolf pack of Shreveport the real deal going on that you don't know about is that Sookie is going to be assasinated by a vampire in a revenge killing. She is barely saved at the last minute. Southern Vampire Stories are as much about mysteries and about vampires and supernatural beings. What Charlaine Harris has done is combine three genres of books. Vampire books and mystery stories, and porn. She is not the first one to do this. Lots of vampire stories have mysteries in them. But none of them have the complexity of supernatural society and devious mystery as Charlaine Harris books. Southern Vampire Mysteries rock.

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments That is a vampire sersies? I have not heard of it, and I thought I knew them all. Vampire series have become so popular they are popping up like mushrooms.

Audrey (bibliosaurustext) I just finished reading The Strain. It has elements of Dracula, Salem's Lot, and I Am Legend. It's written like a movie, so there are a lot of short sections full of action. The vamps are scary, zombie-like monsters. It's the first in what will be a three book series.

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments If you haven't read any of the old Vampire stories then you should. In this order, Carmilla,Dracula, The Vampyre. They are all free online at Horrormasters.com You will really dig this site. It also has a werewolf section, ghosts and supernatural section, horror section. With stuff like H.P. Lovecrafts The Color From Space and At the Mountains of Madness. Great site for sure.

I loved the Night Huntress series by Frost. So far there are only 3 books, but the 4th comes out in a few weeks. The first book in the series is Halfway to the Grave

Another excellent series is the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris. So far there are 9 books in the series. The first book is Dead Until Dark

You're very welcome LaTonia. Yes, all of the characters are connected in both series.

Night Huntress is about a female half-breed vampire, Cat, that hunts evil vampires. She ends up being in a very intense relationship with Bones, a bounty hunter of vampires. I love how their relationship develops and how the plots between the books end up connected. If you like strong heroines, you'll love Cat.

I just started reading BDB, I am currently on my second book. I like the books so far, but I think Night Huntress and Sookie are way more intertwined and connected, as far as characters and plots go.

LT - Book Lovers 4Ever | 28 comments wow really.. did i really need to get those books.. and you give the list of the books because when i look it up it doesnt show which books are first

Do you need the list of books in order for BDB or Night Huntress, or both?
