Eros Junior | 3 comments Hi everyone!

I need help getting the name of a book I read between 2008 and 2012 that I lost - and since I've read many books after that one, I don't remember

I read the book in Portguese, so I don't know one single word of the title in English; or even if the author is American or not. And worse: since I read a translation of it, the date I mentioned above might mean nothing.

I don't remember the name of the book and neither many characters, BUT, I remember these details:

a. the cover might have been green.

b. In the back of the book there was Stephen King note saying the author is a must-read in his house.

c. The first chapter shows an elder (man) doctor preparing ans starting to perform a surgery in someone's intestine. It shows that the doctor started to think the intestine was too big and started cutting pieces of it. The assisting team tried to stop him but he, having a scaple in his hands killed everyone in the surgery room. Immediately after that, he feels pursued (or was actually being pursue) and kills himself jumping out of a window.

*** POSSIBLE AND CERTAIN SPOILERS AHEAD. ***

d. There was a underaged prostitute who liked her pimpo/boyfriend. He sets up a weird client for both her and a friend. She gets straped into a surgery table and doesn't see what the client is doing to her. He is actually fertilizing her in vitro.

e. The man character is a police officer, or something like that.

f. The forementioned girl dies at the end.

g. The story is about a new scientific discovery that, by using in-vitro fertilized eggs of women containing only a certain hormone or something like that, old people could live longer and healthier for a certain period of time. After this time has passed, they would get crazy (like it happened in the first chapter).

h. The girl's friend gives birth to a very disformed baby.

i. I remember that someone is killed in front of a hospital, but since this detail is so unclear in my mind, it might come from another book.

j. The book shows a lot of point of views; the girl's was one of them.

k. Some scenes take place in a nursing home for rich people.

Anyway this is all I can remember of the book.

Thank you

If no one knows the book you might consider looking through this list of books Stephen King recommends. Warning, there are 808. (He's a total blurb whore.)

If you get really desperate you could also join this group "Books Stephen King Recommends."
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/4...

Surely someone in that group will know what it is.

Valerie (veegood) | 248 comments I have read that scene you described. I cannot for the life of me remember any more than that bit you've described, but I will work on it. I have the feeling that I read it earlier than 2008 - maybe even as early as 2000, but I'm not sure.

Valerie (veegood) | 248 comments My brain keeps telling me the author is someone like Mary Higgins Clark, or Barbara Vine, unless I'm mixing it up with another story. I kind of remember a lot of conspiracy and secrecy around a hospital, people sneaking in at night to look for clues/info/a missing person? Something?

Eros Junior | 3 comments Thank you, Lobstergirl and Valerie for your answers.

I'm surely going to join that group, Lobstergirl.

Valerie, I'm completely uncertain about that. You see, I've read some books about doctors in the last few years, so I'm pretty sure I'm confusing it with another book.

One thing I'm certain though, is that some "scenes" take place in a nursing home for rich people.
