Rachel | 1527 comments I'm trying to think of books where a character uses a fake name which is an anagram of their real name.

An example is the book Last Act by Christopher Pike, where the character Susan Trels also uses the name Stan Russel.

It also happens in The Season of Lilian Dawes by Katharine Mosby.

LauraW (lauralynnwalsh) | 370 comments I am thinking there is a kids' book, where the character uses Leon for Noel, or vice versa, but that is as much as I can remember right now.

April | 26 comments The Witch's Daughter does this. The guy chasing the Witch's Daughter uses anagrams through out the centuries to find and capture her.

Rachel | 1527 comments Thanks for your comments. I feel like there is a really obvious, famous example which I am missing, but it's the kind of thing which is impossible to Google! Any suggestions welcome.

Kate (katiebobus) | 202 comments LauraW you may be thinking of The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon I mean Noel.

LauraW (lauralynnwalsh) | 370 comments Yes, I think that was the book I was thinking about. I don't remember enough of it to know if it would fit in the category the OP was interested in though.

Teresa (hydrolagus) | 95 comments The Tattooed Potato and Other Clues also includes anagram names. It's also by Ellen Raskin, the author of The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon I Mean Noel.
I know of another one, but to identify it would be a major spoiler since it's a secret until nearly the end.

Kate (katiebobus) | 202 comments Teresa, if you're keeping with your theme, I think what book you mean! :)

Rachel | 1527 comments Teresa, could you send me the book details as a private message please? I'm not bothered by spoilers!

Rachel | 1527 comments Thank you all, I think the Lord Voldemort example is the one I was trying to remember! I knew there was one in a very well-known book.

Aerulan | 1316 comments The Keep The Keep (Adversary Cycle, #1) by F. Paul Wilson by F. Paul Wilson has this. The bad guy, an evil immortal sort of vampire dude (in the book legends about him gave rise to some vampire stories in the region where he was imprisoned) uses an anagram of his real name when he introduces himself to the protagonists.

Liralen | 766 comments In I, Lucifer, the protagonist's name is an anagram of the author's name. May or may not count in terms of what you're looking for...
