Dimitrios Chytiris (dimis) | 39 comments Hello all, I have another question and since I am so green I would love your help with this one.

Why is the price I set in Kindle Bookshelf a lot different than the actual price my book is sold in Amazon?
I set a price of $2.99 but in Amazon it says $6.14!!! for Kindle. Why is that, can anyone share their knowledge please?
Also another issue: my $2.99 book costs $6.14 ONLY when I check the price from my Amazon account. If I check the price without logging in the price is the correct one ($2.99).
It's kind of confusing for me, can anyone shed some light here?

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 217 comments If you're not in the US, you might not be seeing the 'proper' US price on the US Amazon site.

Also, Amazon are prone to altering the price themselves anyway.

Which can be flipping annoying.

Fletcher Best (fletcherbest) | 54 comments Amazon has surcharges for purchases made in certain countries (yes, even for Kindle books), so if your Amazon account is registered in one of those countries, they're adding charges to the cost of the book. For those buyers where they don't have any surcharges, the price will appear as you have set it. By the way, assuming you are talking about "Amelia's Adventures", it does appear as $2.99 when I check it on my (U.S. based) account.

thank you, and the rest of the guys for helping me understand this :D
my account is non-US so that explains it, again thank you all so much. It's good that the prices are not different than the ones i choose for them in the states at least :)

Fletcher Best (fletcherbest) | 54 comments You're welcome. I discovered this the hard way when I promoted my book to my email list at the price I had assigned and got angry emails back accusing me of a "bait and switch" by a few of my non-U.S. subscribers.

The surcharge is a set amount and not based on a percentage of the product price. A few bucks is not so noticeable on higher ticket items, but on a $2.99 Kindle book it's a pretty steep charge!

Dimitrios,
Go to Amazon Central and ask them the same question you asked here. They are very responsive and will get bck to you in a couple of days.
