I thought of his driving home from university for the weekend last night.

Your characters just popped out of your book, passed through your monitor, or climbed out of your notebook.

Would you get along with your characters? Would they like you? If you'd ask one of them out on a date, would (s)he say yes or no? And when you receive an answer, what would the nonverbal communication included? Would she laugh at you? Would he feel guilty about saying no?

Basically, what would it be like if your characters met you in real life?

:3

Kamil | 187 comments Josh, i created(?) them so obviously I know how their minds work. Of course if they came to life, their personalities might be altered by our world; yet I still would know how to get Morrigan out of her cloths.

I would end up in scraps with the girls and somewhere more comfortable with the boys...

message 4: by Carry (new)

Carry | 38 comments I think I would get along very well with my protagonist. Though I don't think he would be boyfriend or dating material, seeing he tends to prioritise his birds (he's a falconer) and I can be pretty demanding at times.
I don't think I will be able to get along with a important female character. She's just too bitchy and changed mood too often. I can get along easily with most kinds of persons, though if they are cruel or evil, I wouldn't even bother trying to along with them.

message 5: by Hemmie (new)

Hemmie Martin (hemmiemartin) I love writing twisted, bad and/or emotionally unstable characters, so I would be wary of spending too much time with them, lest they do me harm in some way.
I would get on with my protagonist, I suspect, although I'm not a terribly sociable person, so they wouldn't see a lot of me.

Dawn J Stevens (dawnjstevens) | 51 comments I like to think I'd get along with most of my bubbly and friendly characters, but there might be an occasional issue or two with a few of them. Couple in particular I'd have a hard time gritting my teeth when they're in the same room, and may end up saying a few words to them. Other than that, I think I'd be safe haha.

Deb (soulhaven) | 103 comments My main protagonist, Llew, would hurl abuse at me for giving her the power I gave her. My main male would be friendly enough, I think, but I don't think I'm special or courageous enough for him to take an interest. Anya, my female MC's friend, would like me - she likes pretty much everyone. My baddie, Braph, might be interested in me for the power I wield in their world... little else. I'm sure I could chatter with some of my peripheral characters... Nothing magical, I don't think.

message 8: by David (new)

David Stringer Ha, would like to think I would get on well with one of the main characters! As although one of the leads is extremely hunky, intelligent and funny (which would normally be a threat) the character is also me :p

J.X. (xeitgeixt) | 3 comments I'd probably get along with most of the characters in my Diadae Saga series, they're mostly all geeks like me... but Krys from Accelerati? We have very little in common; she's an outgoing, sporty type and I'm the polar opposite. Still, I'd like to think we could carry on a civil conversation, at the very least.

As for asking out one of my characters... well, maybe Kodi, but I'm pretty sure she'd turn me down in favor of somebody else. The rest of them, I would have no chance in Hell and am not masochistic enough to try! :P

Jaeme (J_Haviland) | 40 comments I would definitely get tired of Mason in my novel "Groundfog". He's a pain in the ass- always drunk or stoned. Oddly, I'd like to meet the antagonist, Katherine. She's frightening, but imminently more interesting.

message 11: by Mark (new)

Mark Bordner I'd better ! Seeing as my central character is based on my wife :P

message 13: by Harmony (last edited Nov 14, 2013 12:03PM) (new)

Harmony Kent (harmonyk) @Mark - lol :3

In my first book, probably I'd be mates with most of them, maybe not Ezra though ... he's just an out and out baddy.
In my second book, I reckon we'd get on each other's nerves pretty quickly, although I would have to admit that Helen has a lot of spunk :D
In my WIP I would adore the gritty teenager, Sarah, and hope she would see me as a kind of 'big sister'/mates type influence in her life ...
OMG this just feels so totally weird! ;p

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments All my main characters are too young for me to really relate to. I would probably get along with the main character's mother most out of them all. She's a straight up computer programming nerd.

@Mark LOL, yeah you'd better be careful what you'll say, or else your protagonist might become your antagonist :P

I'd like to think that I would get along with pretty much any character in my first book except maybe a few minor ones and then again, who knows.
What can I say, I'm an easy going person. :P That's what I've been told many times anyway.

However, in the sequel, there are some pretty despicable characters I wouldn't want to meet and I would advise anyone to run away from them as fast as they could if they would come to life. :P

Now to answer another one of your question, no, I wouldn't ask any of them to go out on a date with me. I'm married! :P

@Bisky LOL

message 18: by Topaz (new)

Topaz Winters (topazwinters) Probably only one of my main characters out of the two - she's based off of me, though, so I'm cheating a bit ;) The other one is a total jerk and no one gets along with him, so definitely not!

Ahaha this is such a great question. Sadly, though, I'm not sure if I would get along with my MC. She's based on everything I wanted to ever be and am not (i.e. master martial artist, poli-lingual) and I just think that because of that she would kind of not even take note of me, she does, after all, have bigger issues to deal with. I don't think we'd hare each other or anything but I don't think we'd be chill in' anywhere together either.
I feel like such a bad mom-author for saying that lol. I suppose there's the possibility for being wrong though.
