Donna Moore | 96 comments Hi All,

I am trying to find a fictional collection of ghost stories which were published either in 1992 or 1993. I have a feeling it was a single author collection, however I am not completely positive about this. It was a hardcover book, and I remember the cover mainly comprised of a cloudy, bleak sky - grey, light blue, maybe some pink streaking. Unfortunately, I am not sure if there was anything else on the cover, eg house, ruin, trees.

Donna Moore | 96 comments This book was aimed at adults. I have read a lot of ghost stories over the years, and I must admit some of these stories quite creeped me out. I may be mistaken, but I think one of the first stories in this book concerned a haunted inn.

Holly (hollylovesbooks) | 759 comments Do you think the stories were written around 1992, or do you think they were older stories that were just now being collected into one volume?

Donna Moore | 96 comments The Collected Ghost Stories by EF Benson could be it. The timeframe certainly fits (November 1992). I will obtain a copy and read it.

I'm afraid I do not know when the stories were actually written. I did think at the time that I couldn't remember reading any of them before.

Perhaps browsing the Look Inside version on Amazon will help.

Donna Moore | 96 comments Thank you very much for the link to the Collected Ghost Stories of EF Benson. I had a look through the book, unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be the one I am looking for after all.

Donna Moore | 96 comments The more I think about it, it might have been a book of new stories written around 1992/1993. The author might have been a woman. I remember I joined Doubleday Book Club in Australia in the early months of 1993 (March/April) and saw this book in their monthly catalogue a few months later. I thought at the time that I was very glad I joined Doubleday when I did, in order to get this book which I did not see in any of my local book stores. I've been trying really hard to remember more details, and I think it said in the catalogue blurb that it was a new collection.

Serendi I just went to doubledaybookclub.com and searched on ghost stories, then on haunted. It gives you cover shots and links for a lot of books. Also, if you click on one, you get several "people who bought this book also bought" suggestions.

Might not still be there, but some book clubs have perpetual stock, so it's worth a shot.

Donna Moore | 96 comments Thankyou for these two suggestions, Kris. Unfortunately, they are not it either. I actually purchased a couple of books by Richard Dalby when I first began searching for this particular book a few years ago, and enjoyed reading them. Even if I don't find my book, some of the suggestions sound like really good reading.

Doubleday Book Club haven't been any help to me - apparently my available purchase records only go back as far as 1996. I was very disappointed, I thought that as I am still a current member, all my records should still be available to me.
