message 52: by SarahSaysRead (new)

SarahSaysRead I just found out today that Philippa Gregory is coming out with a new book in August. I believe it's called The White Queen.

She's one of my favorite authos, but I didn't much enjoy her last novel, so I hope this one is better.

Courtney (courtneyclift) | 61 comments Oooooh, Thanks Sarah! I love her too and agree about most recent. Let's hope White Queen doesn't disappoint!

Sounded promising but the book description gave me a headache.

It looks pretty interesting! I have Pride and Prejudice and Zombies at home to read.

Nadia A (bagambo) Hiya Monica! Yes I have heard about Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters and I can't wait to read it!! I read about it on the Entertainment Weekly website. That is incredibly cool. I hope they do many more remakes the classics, they're so amusing.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the turned P&P&Z into a movie? I think it'd be hilarious.

Yes, never before released. Lucy Montgomery wrote it before her death. I believe it is to be about her and Gilberts life reflections maybe???

What is Sense and Sensibilty and Sea Monsters about?

message 70: by Sharon A. (new)

Sharon A. (sharona826) | 172 comments I'm excited to read the new Phillipa Gregory, as well as the next book from Time Traveler's Wife author (can't remember her name!)

But I'm most thrilled to have recently heard that Stieg Larssen has a follow-up to Girl with the Dragon Tattoo coming out soon. I didn't see anything on GR about it, so will have to do some searching to find out exactly when.

message 71: by Kate (new)

Kate | 106 comments Steig Larsson's The Girl Who Played with Fire - the second book in a series that began with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo comes out Tuesday and one of my co-workers and I have planned a book buying party on that day to celebrate it.

I am also very excited about the new Richard Russo book, "That Old Cape Magic," which comes out Aug. 4. If you have not discovered him, you should! He is an excellent writer.

message 72: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 654 comments SQUEAK! Thanks Kate for that bright news. I've been wanting to read the next book in that series! The Girl With Played with Fire 28 July according to Amazon.

S&S&SM is going to be so smashing. Wonder if there will be a nearby cake party for the book's release!

Oooh!! Another Anne book! Rebecca that's among the best news I've heard. Linkage

Joy (joy85) | 94 comments I can't wait to read Twenties Girl A Novel. I love Sophie Kinsella.

message 75: by Cyndi (new)

Me too! I love the Shopaholic series and everything else by Kinsella? Have you read her Madeleine Wickham books too?

Actually, I've found that although I really enjoyed Outlander, I liked Dragonfly in Amber better and I think I almost like Voyager better than Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber! :) How cool is that? Voyager has been one huge exciting adventure. All three books have been really different, I really fell in love with Jamie and Claire in Dragonfly in Amber. DiA had some really touching moments, Voyager has been a lot of sword fighting, mystery, witchcraft and sailing! It makes me think of Pirates and the Caribbean!

message 79: by Monica (new)

Monica (imelda85) I've heard rumours that the 7th book may not be the last! I can't believe it! That woman can write!

Joy (joy85) | 94 comments Nadia wrote: Me too! I love the Shopaholic series and everything else by Kinsella? Have you read her Madeleine ..."

I've read a few of Madeleine's books. Cocktails for 3 and another one...ah- The Gatecrasher (I just forgot the name of it!). I own two more, but haven't gotten around to reading them yet- the Wedding something or other and Sleeping Arrangements. Any thoughts on those?

I've read everything that she's done as Sophie Kinsella. I think my favorite has to be The Undomestic Goddess. I also really liked Can You Keep A Secret. I wasn't crazy about Remember Me?... What do you think?

I completely agree with you about Remember Me? - I just didn't think that it was up to par. I had really been looking forward to it and was disappointed with it. I plan on getting her new one, Twenties Girl and am hoping that she is back on track with it. I've heard some mixed reviews, but my fingers are crossed. And I agree with you about The Undomestic Goddess - its one of my faves too! As for the Wickham books- I just bought The Gatecrasher yesterday and am looking forward to that one. I enjoyed Cocktails for Three - that was a fun book. She definitely writes some great books!

message 82: by Joy (new)

Joy (joy85) | 94 comments I liked Gatecrasher, but just as a warning- not quite her usual characters- the main one is much older than we're used to from her but still enjoyable. I think in the end I may have enjoyed that better than Cocktails, but I can't quite remember. Let me know what you think of it!

message 83: by Joy (new)

Joy (joy85) | 94 comments Nadia- I just picked up Twenties Girl in Coscto for $15! It's now sitting on the shelf, waiting patiently.

message 84: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) Joy - I am going to buy my copy of Twenties Girl tomorrow. Can't wait to read it. I think I am just going to dive right in and not let any of those mixed reviews affect my enjoying a new Sophie Kinsella book.

message 85: by Joy (new)

Joy (joy85) | 94 comments Absolutely. I try to put blinders on when it's concerning a favorite author. I know what I like, thank you!

I hope so, too! I've been hearing good things about it and I'm excited that it's the beginning of a new series! I never read The Other Queen because of the mediocre reviews. I have enjoyed quite a few of her books though, I'll keep my fingers crossed! :)

message 95: by Holli (new)

Holli Yeah, cool huh? I posted about that earlier in this thread... I'm excited to read that one Jamie!

message 96: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'm looking forward to Dancing in the Dark A Cultural History of the Great Depression, the title is pretty self-explanatory and I'm hoping it will help me with my thesis, and A Gate at the Stairs, which is about a college student that nannies and she becomes closer to that family and more and more alienated from her own family.
