Holli That sounds good Rose! I saw today while at the movies that they made The Road by Cormac McCarthy into a movie (the preview was on). I had no clue!

Karen Korn (stitcher2683) | 3 comments I'm reading Pat Conroy's newest: South of Broad. I've been waiting for a new book of his for years. I'm about 3/4 of the way done and it's good. My fave book of his is Prince of Tides, which was sheer poetry! Love these southern writers (Anne Rivers Siddons and Lee Smith as well!).

message 103: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments Karen, I love those southern writers too!

I am waiting on the sequel to A Year on Ladybug Farm by Donna Ball. It will be released on October 6th and is called At Home on Ladybug Farm.

I'll be looking forward to that! In E,P,L she definitely conveyed the struggle between keeping her newfound happiness and independence and yielding to the part of her that still wanted romance. I'm curious to see how she made that balance.

this looks pretty good! thanks for the recommendation!

What is the Outlander series about? someone said something about it being romance? are they the typical cheesy romance books? or is there a different theme to them as well?

The Outlander series are a little bit of everything; romance, sci-fi, history, etc. They're centered on the relationship of Jamie and Claire, but I wouldn't put them in the "romance" category. They're not cheesy or smutty at all.

Awesome, another Monika! I highly recommend the Outlander series as well! It is not cheesy at all! It's a really exciting series to read!

Monica (imelda85) Also, I have been meaning to read The Glass Castle A Memoir, I know some chicks liked it. I read that Jeannette Walls is coming out with another book in October. It's called Half Broke Horses A True Life Novel. It looks really good!

message 109: by Starling (new)

Starling The Outlander series is basically a romantic time travel book that grew into a series. The author knows her history. They are published as romance because the relationship between the two main characters is primary to the series.

And romance does not mean cheesy. And science fiction isn't always for kids (I know I'm dating myself on that one). And mysteries aren't always about solving a puzzle.

message 110: by SarahSaysRead (new)

SarahSaysRead For those of you who like Barbara Kingsolver (author of The Poisonwood Bible), she is coming out with a new novel in November!

The Lacuna

Sounds really interesting. I'm very excited, I really like Kingsolver's style of writing.

message 111: by Kirstin (new)

Kirstin (ktippie) | 28 comments Kate Jacobs has a series called The Friday Night Knitting Club and the new one is released on November 3rd called Knit the Season. They are really good books and definitely chick lit.

message 112: by SarahSaysRead (new)

SarahSaysRead I've been wanting to read The Friday Night Knitting Club and actually have it because I bought it used, but lately I've heard so many people were disappointed in it, so now I'm hesitating. I heard she has another book too, Comfort Food I think it's called. Any one know if that one is better?

message 113: by Kirstin (new)

Kirstin (ktippie) | 28 comments I loved them all. There have been quite a few books that got fairly bad reviews that I enjoyed so I guess its just a matter of taste.

message 117: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) I read the first book of the Outlander series and loved it up until half way through, it seemed to be repetitive and It bored me. I might get around to reading the end and I do have all of the books in the series. It just didnt captivate me like a book should. Not like it did in the beginning.

I also love Dan Brown, Angels & Demons, what a fantastic book, Brown certainly knows how to take his readers on a ride.

I am looking forward to BDB series 8th book. Should be good.

message 118: by Terri (new)
