Melissa (lostunicorn) When you're counting books you've read, how does an omnibus count? If it's 3 books in an omnibus form, do you count it as 1 book or 3?

Nyssa | 134 comments I count each book in the omnibus separately, which is a pain in the butt to do here on GR. You have to add the individual books to your shelf, even though you have an omnibus version.

Edited to Add - I usually use the omnibus version as either the first or last book; which throws of the page count, but keeps the number of books read at the correct figure.

Aelliana (aelli) | 41 comments I also make an entry for each book separately. The most interesting thing for me is when I read a book, not which exact version I read. But I have an omnibus shelf I use(when I remember) to make a note that I read the omnibus version.

At first I used the shelf to list the omnibuses as well, but I stopped adding them since it messes up the page/book count.

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 262 comments I say count them as separate books - they are afte rall. And I wish I knew whether it was omnibi or omnibuses (as I've published 3 of these things myself ;-)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I count them as separate books.

I shelve the individual book as "series split" or something like that.

Christopher Preiman | 50 comments I shelve each book individually for my year shelves and any other shelf it might qualify for but also try to make sure the omnibus gets a rating and gets shelved in the master read shelf.

Lucinda | 183 comments I list them both because, usually, I have a paperback or kindle copy of the individual books and then purchase the hardcover omnibus of the books I love.

Melissa (lostunicorn) Thanks everyone for the input. My original thought was to count the individual books as well, but it almost seemed like that was cheating since technically, physically it is only 1 book.

@ Michael: Ok, I couldn't stand not knowing, so I looked it up....and officially it seems to be 'omnibuses'. Although I did find one discussion where not only 'omnibi' was suggested but 'omniboo' as well. lol

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1409 comments I looked it up, too.
:)
Either of your options seem correct.
I think omniboo...is just silly.
;)

Melissa (lostunicorn) I agree with you on omniboo Brenda!

Andreas
This is an "Omnibus". At least in German :)
Comes from latin "for all" (omnes: all, omnibus: for all).
And the plural is of course "Omnibusse".
