I've always loved Russia. It's not the country's fault that they never have a decent government.

Don't get me wrong, the country seems like an amazing place. It's just their anti-gay laws that bug me.

I'm not mad keen on sports in general so I'm not obsessed by the Olympics. I do like the tennis and the ice skating. And yes, Faye, that Russian girl was absolutely amazing. And only 15! Russians always seem to be absolute naturals and amazing at ice skating, and some of them make it look so ridiculously easy. I can barely stand up on skates. lol

It's a pity they have to ruin the sports by cutting to shots of Putin's face. It was like when we had the Olympics over here and every so often they'd cut to shots of Cameron's smug face.

Hey all! was just curious but is anyone going to watch the new spongebob tv special when it comes on nickelodeon on the 17th? I'm planning on it with the Charlie brown valentines day special on Friday night. :)

Yeah it's called SpongeBob vs the goo and it comes on that night at 7/6 central that night on the 17th. LOL. :)

So what's does anyone like to read online serial fiction? Just curious. I only read one that is a ya vampire series called the blood magic saga that you can read for free at http://www.blood-magic.net . It's a pretty good series that posts a chapter a week. I'm on book 3 of the series now.

The website epiguide has some listed too with the website webfiction guide and you could probably find some on wattpad and amazon too.

Hi Alxandra and congratulations on writing your future novel!

You could try approaching Kobo, the digital e-reader/ bookstore. I notice there are several new authors on there who offer their debut novels at no exposure in exchange for exposure. I have read dozens of books in their Free Ebook category and get so hooked, I end up buying the rest of the series. It's an effective marketing strategy for sure but also very helpful for unknown authors.

I would also suggest getting in touch with Vicar Sayeedi, the author of The Legacy of the Peacock Throne. He actively promotes his own book here on GG and may possibly have some tips for you.

I have trouble sometimes too if I'm particularly busy - especially if I'm not enjoying the book as much as I would like. Putting it down for a few days works for me, and sometimes, moving to another book for a few days helps as well.

My mum is planning on taking me to a bookshop on Friday, so that's definitely sparked my interest in books again.

Life is so cruelly unfair. I haven't read for like 2 weeks, then as soon as I have loads of work to do (aka 3 essays), I want to read again!

Holly - enjoy the bookshop! There's nothing better than getting to do a tour in a bookshop and pick up your best finds!

I'm either going to do a charity bookshop, or Waterstones. I love the idea of getting loads of books in the charity bookshop because they're secondhand and so cheap. But then again, I really want to get MaddAddam, which would mean going to Waterstones or something.

I'm reading like three books at the same time. Two are ebooks and one is a regular one so I'm taking turns on each one and one of them is a read 4 review I haven't started yet but will tonight after my Just Dance 2014 40 minute workout. I burned 198 calories from it last night. It's fun! ^_^

Amber, 40 minutes? I do 10 minutes with the kids and I am tired! lol

Yeah. It gives you a workout and its fun. ^_^

I've finally got back into reading!

For me I tend to read a book in a week or longer if it is a fast week and more than that when it is long so that's what it is been like for me. ^_^

Considering March is technically spring, I thought it would be good to get some happiness in the banner! Its definitely revitalising!

I'm happy/sad right now cuz I asked something at one of the book clubs I was in in the general chat thread there and got reprimanded for it so I basically apologized to them and said that I was sorry for being a bother there. I only mentioned it once and they said that I had to refrain from such posts in the future so I prob won't post there much anymore except to add my 2014 reads and do a readalong or two there. Made me sad that I was being self-promotional about asking about if anyone wanted to read a serial I was writing here on goodreads. didn't even share a link or anything there.

I'm sure you weren't being a bother, Amber. Reading groups often have to set rules like that, otherwise people will join groups just to promote their own writing, and that can get out of control really quickly. They have to enforce the rule with everyone if the rule is there, not just you. Don't take it personally.

Okay thanks Faye. I just only did it in the general chat thread anyway so I just told that group that if anyone wanted to talk to me there without getting reprimanded about it to just send me a PM and that'd be fine. I only write for fun anyway and it wasn't for profit.

Just put Maurice, MaddAddam, Red Dragon and The Maze Runner on my Kindle in preparation for this months reading.

I already placed my alarm clock and watch an hour ahead so am ready for daylight savings time sandy. I'm doing well. Went to see the film nonstop with liam neeson and it was a pretty good thriller. Also got some great feedback on my online ya horror fantasy serial here from author friends and other friends who liked it with my cousin. They said that's a pretty good serial thus far. :-) made my day! Can't wait to post chapter 4 on the 14th. If you ever want to read it, let me know and I'll link you to it. One of my favorite actors robert englund inspired me for the villain in it too. I hope your plumbing problems get fixed.

Can I ask ya'll a question? How many are you are YA book fans? I was just curious. I'm a fan of the genre and I am writing an online web serial here on goodreads under that genre with horror and fantasy that I'm doing a chapter a week until I'm finished. Hey Amber. I'm too nervous to do much looking at "horror" (and I don't remember YA even being a genre when I was a young adult) but I found your links to this one on your page. I think it's great you can share your "writing for fun" in this way-- I have poetry in a box that I will NOT be sharing :) My favorite part was the poem in Ch. 1 (really nice), and a couple things later on that I guess might be spoilers. Keep having fun with it!

Does anybody here do something like "cutting open" books? I live in the US, and I've never heard of this before. I'm reading a book called If on a winter's night a traveler, and the author just described using a paper cutter to slice open a book. At first I thought he meant somehow separating the front matter from Chapter 1, but then it sounded like he was literally separating the pages. Is this something real people do with hardcovers somewhere? The setting is basically modern times-- published in 1979. Author Italo Calvino was Italian.

Thanks Iasa and Sandy. For some reason I got very curious about this. I think I'd be scared of damaging the new book if I had to cut apart all the pages, and that's what it sounded like. I remember the thicker paper and uneven edges Sandy (rather fondly).
