Goodreads Authors/Readers discussion

Hello there!

So this is a random question that I've had in my head all day. Any of you goodreaders (authors or readers) part of any Facebook groups that cater to eBook marketing, book deals, authors, etc? If so, got any good ones I can join? I've joined a couple good ones but there were also the ones that constantly spammed me with 'sale here' etc etc.

Any groups where I can be more personable with other authors? I really would love to talk to more people and make more friends who are literary bugs like me! :)

I'm a member of this group, with about 300 members. It's primarily a buy and review exchange whereby a member buys and reviews 5 books in order to make the "active" list. Once on the list his or her book is available for all other members to buy and review, and the author stays on the list until s/he has received a minimum of 10 reviews! Additionally, members interact in a variety of individually initiated threads to garner other writers' experiences in all facets of the business or simply to talk about the weather... lol. The Facebook group "Social Media for Writers" is about pooling information on this topic. Each member is allowed ONE promotional entry about his or her writing. Period. So the group doesn't get spammed with endless stuff about buying other peoples' books. https://www.facebook.com/groups/36946...

Thanks Lex and Andrew, I'll definitely check them out! :) I feel more confident on Facebook vs. goodreads and I need to get more active on both. Hopefully the groups will help, thank you!

I'm a member of a few but I too have come across some that tend to spam or aren't really beneficial. One of my friends is a member of a lot and her groups come up on my wall to join.

Ellen Violette has a FB page - I like being on her email list as she regularly sends free PDF's with helpful info for authors, especially those of e-books.

The site is a little salesy but if you can get past that, once you opt in on her website, you'll get helpful free PDF's and regular interviews available for free. (Her last one was of a woman from the UK who recently wrote a book about Goodreads!) The website: http://www.1ebooksolution.com/

The plan is simple, you read what the groups are about, figure out whether they fit what your looking for and join them. Then if some are spamming or not very active remove yourself from them and keep the good ones, weigh the options.
