In that situation there are a couple of options. 1) You could benefit from some pure escapism - something to take you out of yourself and drag you (mentally at least) a long way from where you are. 2) you want to have a wallow in your situation, in which case you need something as depressed as you are (the literary equivalent of listening to the Smiths!) Or 3) you need something to kick you out of it, in which case something with someone worse off than yourself might just be the thing.
1) Terry Pratchett, each and every time. Funny, smart, outlandish. Teaches you something about the human condition under cover of being comic.Mort (my personal favourite) or Guards! Guards!.
2) this one I'm not up on. not my style.
3) Oh my, the list could be endless. Those books that can envelop you in the protagonists suffering and put you through an emotional wringer. The Book Thief, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Heloise & Abelard: A New Biography, The Light Between Oceans, The Periodic Table, there are loads of great books that show quite how much it can hurt to be human - but how much better is it to survive.
The world will improve, even if it doesn't feel like it quite now, but bury yourself in a good book is one way of escaping the pain for a short while.

If you're really after something non-fiction you could always give something like Eat, Pray, Love a go. Men and women aren't that different, we're all people, so who cares if it's by a woman if it helps you.
I'd personally suggest High Fidelity for you. It's fiction, but main character is male and who gets dumped in the first chapter. Might be a good start for you.
If we can't help, you could try the /r/booksuggestions on Reddit. Just make sure you put all the information in your first post (for example, like you are after non-fiction) as Reddit is a lot more unforgiving than YLTO.
Good luck, and even though everything feels like crap now, you'll get through it.

Another really good nonfiction book that I think is good for anyone going through a tough time is Carry On, Warrior: Thoughts on Life Unarmed. She really addresses that whole superficial thing you talk about, and really just picking up and putting it all back together when bad things happen.
I feel for your situation. God knows we've all been through it. Time passes, and you'll be a stronger person for having gone through this now. Wishing you the best.
