Elysia (elysia_rae) Now that I think about it, I haven't seen Legalos in the book either, so, I'm going to assume he wasn't in the book and was just put into the movie as well?

(Not that I don't like Legalos! I LOVE him but, yeah)

Yes. But it makes sense, since he's the son of Thranduil.

mels (padmeskywalkers) | 12768 comments Yes... It actually makes sense that he was there. But all these random Galadriel cameos that keep popping up? And that Frodo cameo in Unexpected Journey had no purpose whatsoever.

message 106: by johanna (jo), Marchioness Hobbit (new)

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments Naw, it didn't, except being sweet. I liked that Frodo cameo. It didn't mess up the story, as it was just from the beginning of the Fellowship, and Elijah probably had fun doing it - getting to go back into Middle Earth. And it sort of reminded you that this is the same world as LOTR. I know some people get annoyed that maybe it was just to hook the LOTR-fans, but I thought it was sweet.

^^ Agreed.
When they are going to be in Mirkwood and the ruler of said locale has a son who appeared in the other movies(as a rather popular character, I daresay), then it would be unbelievably down-to-earth :D.

Hm. I have to concur(*cringes* Being an agreeing machine is irksome, I know, but at least it's genuine?) Frodo's cameo was pretty sweet to me. E.g. it was more heartmoving than remembering Bilbo in LotR after seeing the Hobbit.
Well, maybe.

message 110: by mels (new)

mels (padmeskywalkers) | 12768 comments How could you be scared of Benedict? He's so beautiful... *sighs dreamily*

message 111: by Liza (new)

Liza | 26 comments Smaug was TERRIFYING. He wasn't at all what I imagined.

message 112: by johanna (jo), Marchioness Hobbit (new)

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments HE WAS BEAUTIFUL. I was leaning forward in my seat in awe, because wow. <3

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) | 1907 comments Smaug was amazing. AMAZING I TELL YOU.

message 114: by Julia (new)

Julia Smaug was FABULOUS!!! (like me...) I was literally melting every time Smaug talked, I was like "Benedict... It's Benedict's voice..."

message 115: by Elysia (new)

Elysia (elysia_rae) Smaug was terrifying and brilliant, and the fact that Benedict voiced him, woah, AMAZING!

message 116: by Marie (new)

Marie | 19 comments Anyone else wondering how they're going to make another movie? If you look at the book, there are only about fifty pages or so left, right? (Although I might be wrong. Haven't re-read it in ages. Shame on me.)

message 117: by johanna (jo), Marchioness Hobbit (new)

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments There's the whole Battle of Five Armies thing to go, and the Arkenstone, I think? Or did they mess that part up . . . it's been a long time since DOS.
Plus they'll probably add a whole lot in. :P

message 118: by Liza (new)

Liza | 26 comments And Bilbo returning home, and yeah, they'll add a lot.

message 119: by johanna (jo), Marchioness Hobbit (new)

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments ^ Oh yes, that. I'm looking forward to that bit. I hope they don't mess that up. They better not.

message 120: by Liza (new)

Liza | 26 comments They better not mess anything big up, particularly with Fili and Kili's deaths.

message 121: by johanna (jo), Marchioness Hobbit (new)

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments Indeed. And Thorin's.

message 122: by Marie (new)

Marie | 19 comments Wow. I really forgot half of the book. But now I really want to see the next film, which is great. :D

message 123: by Ariana (new)

Ariana | 237 comments I hate how they ended it! I loved the movie, but now they are going to make a third movie from one book!

message 124: by Liza (new)

Liza | 26 comments Another cliffhanger with Smaug, well at least there won't be a cliffhanger in the next movie.

message 125: by talltyrion (new)

talltyrion Nope... Just a horrible sense of loss, realization, and finality.

Sounds wonderful. Something to look forward to. XD

message 127: by M L (new)

M L Nunnally | 37 comments I thought the fact that they had four different cliffhangers was artistic genius, but I'm a bit disappointed in how they showed Laketown. Rohan looks midevil. Gondor looks midevil. But Laketown looked like it was done in a twisted Norse/Victorian style. No offense to PJ though.

message 128: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rjscottie) Laketown did look different.... The movie was brilliant though.

Anna M. Watson | 98 comments I thought Laketown was perfect...

Would you please explain?... Ooh, five cliffhangers!

message 131: by Anna (new)

Anna M. Watson | 98 comments It looked very medieval (from what I know of medieval towns), and I'm not sure there's a whole lot of description in the book. It brought to life everything I expected of it and extra too. :)

Rachel (rjscottie) Elysia wrote: "Johanna ღ♣✽Hobbit & Proud✽♣ღ wrote: "Agent wrote: "Me too. The things added are all from the appendices, and I for one am glad to see more of Middle Earth."

They were not. Tauriel is a total figm..."

Normally it does, but they didn't add Tauriel just for romance, they added her because of the lack of female characters in the book.

message 133: by Jazzy (new)

Jazzy (stairstepjitters) | 155 comments "Guys, guys, listen. I know what they do in the book. Forget the book. We're gonna make a giant gold statue that melts and dwarves, who are very familiar with fire, gold, and dragons are gonna actually be stupid enough because movie plot reasons for a few seconds to think that melting a statue of a dwarf is going to do anything other than turn Smaug into a sparkly golden princess. Great idea, right? Who's with me?"
*entire board of The Hobbit raise hands*

But in all seriousness, I enjoyed the movie. Not necessarily liked it, but I enjoyed it. The barrel-riding scene was perfect. I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the first one, however. And the Smaug/Bilbo wit battle was done so perfectly I thought I was going to cry.

The rest of the movie was kind of "Action! Excitment! Ahh! That Wasn't In The Book But Who Cares! Action! Whoooo! Romance!"
