Apparently the governor REALLY just wanted to get away for a while. I understand that impulse. What do you think? What would you go?

(By the way, I think he was just following Jackie's footsteps...)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments He must have gotten an irresistible hankering for some dulce de leche. I can understand that...

message 3: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) I've been reading that article for two days straight.

He should have gone to Vegas or Dubai ;)

message 4: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Ah HAHA!!! I just read the article - was clueless about what you guys were mentioning about going to Argentina with the gov. One of my fave things about vacation is isolating myself from current events. I had no clue this was going on. I was on vacation when the OJ Simpson stuff happened. You can imagine my reaction to that news... I thought it was all an elaborate practical joke someone was trying to pull over on me. And I wasn't buying any of it.

message 5: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Heidi: And I wasn't buying any of it.

I nearly thought the same with the Oklahoma Bombing. I was in the mountains during that week, cut off from all news. Returned and saw the headlines at a McDonalds. Surreal.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments When 9/11 happened, and I turned on the radio that morning, my first thought was that it must be an April Fools joke, but it wasn't April.

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I read the news ticker on the side of a building downtown as I rode the bus to work that day. It said that a plane hit one of the towers. I pictured a small private plane, and minimal damage. It wasn't until I got to work that I found out what had happened.

message 8: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ooh! He was having an affair!

Ladies, we'd like to hear your alibis.

message 9: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments By the way, the Milwaukee Police Chief just got busted for an affair, too. Ah, spring...when men do really, really stupid things like have affairs...although, to be fair, they don't seem to be seasonal...

message 10: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments It wasn't me. I was on my porch all weekend, with witnesses. Also, I'm pretty gay, and even if that weren't the case, Republican governors are not my type.

message 11: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments That might be the best alibi ever.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Who, me? I was dancing at a gay nightclub last weekend. Nowhere NEAR Argentina...

message 13: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Strange. Even an idiot should know the media would make inquiries if you went missing for more than two days without word. So why lie and your office say were hiking? Why was the wife so accepting?

Now he comes out to say he's having an affair? Huh.

Publicity stunt of sorts??

RA: Look at my post dates. I was around *shuffles toward stage right*

message 14: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments It would help if we had some footage to confirm that, Jackie.

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Jackie, isn't that a Jonathan Richman song?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Pretty much, Sarah Pi. He does have a song called "I Was Dancing in the Lesbian Bar."

Here you go, RA:

message 17: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I don't know why, but I never expected this outcome to this story.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Do you think that's it for the changes, Larry? Or, is there another shoe out there waiting to drop?

message 19: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Probably so. Probably so.

message 20: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Heh, Jackie...not...fair...

I promise to film myself the next time I go dancing in a gay bar in Seattle.

message 21: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I have no alibi. I have no witnesses to my alibi, at least... except my cousins. I was in Tennessee mostly. That's about it.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Gov. Sanford's office initially claimed he was "hiking the Appalachian Trail."

I hereby declare "hiking the Appalachian Trail" as the new euphemism for "having an affair."

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments That's an excellent idea.

"Gentlemen, I did not hike the Appalachian Trail."

"I have hiked in my heart, but I have never actually hiked the Appalachian Trail."

Actually, now I'm alarmed. Just last week Zu and my sister decided that they were going to do a small segment of the trail on the days that I work but they don't.

message 24: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Kinda like your "mentoring" euphemism, Gus! I love it. :)

Whoa... I was in the Appalachians last week. THERE'S my alibi! I was where he said he would be but he wasn't!

message 25: by RandomAnthony (last edited Jun 24, 2009 02:56PM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments He stood you up, then, Heidi?

"It was only an emotional hiking of the Appalachian Trail..."

"But that makes it worse! I wish you had just hiked the Appalachian trail with her for real and told me it didn't mean anything!"

message 26: by Heidi (last edited Jun 24, 2009 03:31PM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I don't like this euphemism anymore. It's confusing when it gets mixed with literal use and figurative use.

message 27: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) *giggles*

Nice euphemism!

message 28: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Wow this is some interesting reading, I am getting to know you all so well...I personally prefer people to keep there skeletons in the closet, at least until there dead anyway.

message 29: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell Can we just assume every politician is either having an affair or is secretly gay so we're not shocked by this and don't have to talk about it anymore?

message 30: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I already was assuming that.

message 31: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) I wasn't shocked to begin with!

I thought he was stupid to lie. The media tears into your private life. He should have realized that prior to the secrecy. Who goes to Argentina without being noticed esp given the recent security measures? (senators that is) I mean if I was Homeland Security, I'd keep an eye on Senator/Rep activities outside the US.

Yes, please do that. I can't wait until RA actually starts posting all the videos of himself he promises.

Who was the senator who was caught soliciting blow jobs in certain airport bathrooms? Whatever happened to him?

message 34: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Gus wrote a great ranty letter to Senator Craig once. :)

message 35: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Gus will have to share this ranty letter!

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Sanford is now saying he will pay the government back the $8000 he spent on an earlier unsanctioned trip to Argentina. The US government would never have sent him there on purpose, since the US is still mad at Argentina for defaulting on their debt a few years ago.

message 37: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 74 comments I would go to the Governor's mansion to get away - since nobody seems to ever be there.

message 38: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) A lil too late, Sarah? It's kinda a cop out. Oops, I got caught so I might as well pay for that trip. I bet if he didn't, he'd never have paid and charged taxpayers.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I posted that ranty letter to Senator Craig around here somewhere. I'll have to look it up.

message 40: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I'm pretty sure that back in the day you posted a link to your myspace blog that no longer exists.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a hard copy of that blog, but I'll have to dig around further to find which thread I linked that letter in.

message 42: by Gerry (new)

Gerry Chambers | 12 comments I think I would pack up a dozen or so must read books and head for my cottage on an island in Lake Erie. Only accessible by boat.

message 43: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Gerry - that sounds wonderful. I'd love to be able to slump on a boat for a full weekend and read books.

message 44: by Gerry (new)

Gerry Chambers | 12 comments It will probably only happen if I when the lottery.

message 45: by Gerry (new)

Gerry Chambers | 12 comments That should be "win".
