What Else Are You Reading - January 2014

I read Doctor Sleep, and it was more supernatural rather than horror, plus I thought the ending was a let down with everything so dramatic leading up to it.

Was going to post this in December's thread because I got it in before the clock, but I didn't write my review fast enough before one of the mods locked it. ^_^
Finished City of Dragons with a few hours to spare before the new year (My Review)

My Review
Continuing the series with Wintertide The Riyria Revelations 5

Its by Dan Abnett one of the writers of the Guardians of the Galaxy series from Marvel Comics that is now a movie coming out in August. He's also a writer in the Warhammer 40K Universe.

And thoroughly enjoying Walter Isaacson's Einstein biography:

In print, I'm reading City of Lost Dreams--a real paper book from the library. And, I'm reading Steelheart on my Nook before I move onto The Einstein Intersection.
I'm really trying to make a tiny dent in my reading backlog before I buy any more books.

I enjoyed his stuff in The Horus Heresy and Gaunts Ghosts. I have this title but haven't read it yet. I'll be interested to hear what you think.

My review
Continuing on to the next book in the series The Peregrine Prophecy

Great! I can't wait to start it :)

I just started it New Years Day and I like it so far, I did think it was going to have a romantic interlude so I am interested now in how that will work out.

Currently reading Dark Horse: The Surprise Election and Political Murder of President James A. Garfield. A great book about Garfield's election, contrasted with what was happening at the same time to the man who killed him.

An amazing book and worth a read even if you aren't ever planning to be an author, especially if you are a Stephen King fan.
The first section is a fascinating tour of his early life and experiments in writing through to when he made it big. The second section deals with the process of writing, but I still think non-authors would enjoy learning how the great master approaches his art. The third section deals with his accident and the immediate aftermath (the book was finished a year or two after it happened).
I've just started reading The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It has an amazing start that has you gripped and completely immersed in the story from the first page. Really enjoying it so far.

One of my favorites by that author. I need to work it into the "reread" list someday soon.

One of my favorite series, second only to The Lord of The Rings.

My first read of the year was The Holders by Julianna Scott, which is an eARC of book two of her Seers series, YA fantasy.

The Shadow of the Wind is one of my favorite novels. Loved the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. :)

Over the weekend, I found a copy of Ringworld at the bookstore. I didn't get a chance to read it along with the book club so I plan to catch up now.

After last month's discussion of dragons and dragon lore, I could not help myself and also requested The Reluctant Dragon from the library. Who cares if it's cataloged in the children's section. I have fond memories of seeing a claymation version of the story on the PBS show "Long Ago and Far Away" (hosted by James Earl Jones) back when I could barely read.

I'd second that. I'm not a fan of horror or even Stephen King but he sure knows how to write well about writing well. I'd have it as part of high school composition classes, if I had my way.

For me I plan to read some nonfiction in order to start the year off.
