Candiss (tantara) | 1207 comments Welcome to our read of The Fionavar Tapestry trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay. Shel will be leading the discussion. Thanks, Shel!

Discussion of the first book in the series, The Summer Tree, will begin on January 15, 2014. I've set the dates on the group bookshelf for each book to run from the 15th of a month through the 14th of the next month, although no thread every actually closes, and people can jump in anytime. Please let me know if you need this format altered, and I'll change things ASAP.

This is just a general starter topic for people to declare their intent to read along and discuss with the group and for general commentary and questions about the series and our discussion. Shel will take it from here and put up further topics as needed for each book and as the group's needs dictate.

Have fun, everyone!

Thanks for setting up the folder, Candiss :) Looking forward to sharing some of my all-time favorite books with everyone!

Jon (jonmoss) I recently requested via interlibrary loan the audiobook editions of the Fionavar Tapestry. I plan to pick the series back up on the second book (as I've already read The Summer Tree. Looking forward to it.

I'll be joining in--this will be a reread for me but the first time was years and years ago, so it will probably be almost like reading it for the first time, LOL!

Mike (mikespencer) | 48 comments I be joining as well. I picked up the audio version of the first book yesterday and I'll get started just as soon as I finish listening to Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

Andreas Just waiting for the 15th :)

John | 16 comments These have been on my shelf for probably 20 years--if I've read them before (say, 20 years ago), I've completely forgotten. This seems like just the time to dust them off! Started reading this morning.

Helen French (helenfrench) | 27 comments Similarly these have been on my bookshelf for about 10-15 years. I don't have many books in paperback form any more so really should try and read them! Just got to finish a big thick SF tome, then this is next on the list for me.

Kerry (rocalisa) | 487 comments I first read this series around when The Summer Tree first came out. I loved them to pieces. I put off rereading them for many, many years, afraid they wouldn't hold up to my memory of them.

Finally, I started rereading The Summer Tree in 2011 and ended up racing through all three and loving them all over again. These are books that work for me. They are books of my heart.

I was planning to read and hopefully join in the posting here but not reread the books as I want to wait another year or two before doing that. Then I remembered I have them as audiobooks. So I'm now listening to The Summer Tree and loving it in that format as well. I'm not good with audiobooks because I don't have a lot of time to listen when I'm not likely to fall asleep (it's a health thing) but now I've started I'm really hoping to manage to listen to all three over the course of this group read.

Although I will be joining in, I still have another book to finish for a different group. And I've had no time to read lately--moving my 93 yr. old dad to a 2 BR assisted living apartment. But I will be home later this week and staying home for 3 weeks, so reading a LOT is on my agenda!

Helen 93 is a fabulous age, Kathi. I have to read my real life book group book for Wednesday and then will start this. I started number9dream last night so won't finish in time. Not enjoying it yet!

Hi all! Very much looking forward to our discussion starting tomorrow. I will do my best to get the topics up on the early side, but I'm a busy working mom so you'll have to forgive me if you're chomping at the bit to get started and I don't get the threads up until later in the day. I haven't forgotten!

I've gotten a request to open up the Wandering Fire discussion thread early. If there are no objections, I'll do so later today; please don't feel pressured/obligated to post until you are ready!
